Agreed.  The problem is that Bioshock was brilliant for the first 30-45 minutes.  After that, less so.

I finished the campaign on Heroic last night and I want to go back now and get the skulls.  Since the skulls don't appear if you use a rally point, are they still visible on Normal?  I want to just collect them fast and then play the meta game on Heroic with some skull modifiers.

I'm working my way through on Heroic right now, and I definitely think co-op would be the way to go as opposed to single. Mainly on the fights where I keep getting my ass kicked from behind by large numbers of creeps with fuel rod cannons.

Ok Ok. I'm a convert.

I finally got some real MP tonight in ranked matches and I'm not as awful as I thought I would be.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm just a few steps above terrible, but man is the MP fun.

The MP is as good as the SP is bad.  Who knew?  icon_biggrin

Apparently you didn't know since you trashed the universe and MP until recently. And if you look back at this thread I think you will find the vast majority of us think the SP is pretty good too, but after all, you are the master of the 45 minute blanket game review!

Again with the constant overgeneralizations.

I trashed the SP and still do. It's weak. Very weak as a single player experience.  I never trashed the MP, but rather said I don't see what's so good about it.

Above I said "wow" I now see what's good about that.

Quote
Quote
Finally, I just don't find Halo, the universe, or what I've seen so far of the MP to be that engaging.
Also does this crow taste good? It sure looks like it would.

I guess you're finding that out now. Or perhaps you're lamenting your lack of reading comprehension skills.

No, let me be clear: I am making fun of your rush to judge games, PH after 30 minutes, Bioshock is the best game ever after a few hours (When the last third of the game is most decidedly not), and your startling revelation that Halo3 multiplayer is not completely trash as you alluded to since right around 9/25. My reading comprehension is fine; your trolling and flip-flopping seemed worth of asking you whether you enjoyed eating all the crow. That question still stands.

Still.  It's pretty stupid to say a game is "brilliant" after playing it for 30-45 minutes.

Except Bioshock...

LOL

Except I did do that...

And haven't played it more than a couple hours.

I attribute this to my freaked-out-ness as opposed to the game itself, of course Tongue

All I know is that I've played just about every decent to great FPS on the 360, especially in the past few months, including R6: Vegas, The Darkness, F.E.A.R, Bioshock, MoH: Airborn, and I know I'm forgetting some, and I thought Halo 3's SP game was better than all of them except R6. R6 takes the cake in terms of purely good level design and great strategic gameplay, but Halo 3 definately had some great "wow" moments, excellent level design (if Halo 3 is on the rails, Bioshock an automated guide tour) that gives you lots of wiggle space to form a strategy, and the vehicles are fun as hell. And really, you guys rag on the story but how many shooters have involving stories? The problems I had with Bioshock's story is the same stuff I've been complaining about since the first KotOR, not to mention the stupid as shit endings.

I don't get why ATB is catching so much shit.  He's not allowed to post initial impressions?  So he didn't like Halo 3 mp at first blush.  WHO WOULDN'T, IT'S FULL OF IDIOTS.  My first run at a Halo 3 FFA (in training class no less) I had my sexuality, promiscuity, sexual competence, and race all called into question.

You guys all sound like a bunch of fucking high school girls deciding to exclude somebody.

I think you guys need to get drunk together and do things inappropriate.

The shame, violation and contempt you'll feel for each other will keep you from actually going at it (again, I might add).

Let's get back on topic.

CSL hates the single player, Brendan is a corporate shill, and CeeKay wets the bed. We all up to speed? good. biggrin

(Oh, and I respect CSL's opinion even though I detest his words, and I love Brendans words and detest his opinion. slywink )

For anyone out there who lost score: I am caustic; I help heal; I am Jack's Sarcasm. I am the voice of reason. I am... BATMAN.

BTW I found out that you can get skulls in Normal and it's so much easier to blow through the missions to get to them as well.  I'm glad I played through on Heroic, I would have felt cheated otherwise.  There's even less enemies on Normal.  One thing about those scoring achievements is that you have to play through the whole mission without saving, so it could get pretty dicey on some parts!!

Can you explain the scoring achievements to me?

How do you keep track of the points you have and such?  And do the checkpoints count as saves (I'd guess not).

ATB, here's a couple links that were given to me about campaign scoring.  Note that it's something you'd likely do after you win the game and are playing through again.

Here's campaign scoring 101:  http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=h3campaign

Here's a guide to Skull mix n' match:  http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12828

Checkpoints do not count, you can die and still complete the mission (unless you use the Iron skull) you just can't save and quit and then come back.

I wonder where you got that impression. I don't hate the single-player, I think its mediocre but still fun despite its obvious flaws.

Multiplayer though is worth of some "Multiplayer of the Year" type of award.

Yeah, apparently, switching your 360 to an Asian language allows you to get into Asia-specific matchmaking, where people are meeting up and getting the achievements.  Too much work for me to go through biggrin

Ok so I did my first attempt at the meta game scoring achievements on the first mission.  I played Heroic with 3 skulls turned on.  The enemy dodge one, the enemy double health one, and the no tracker one.  I scored over 19,000 total points, but I died 36 (!!!!) times and my final score was 13k.  I spent 77 minutes doing this.  frown  Now, I don't normally suck this bad, but MAN trying to kill that Brute with the hammer near the end of level 1 with double health was BRUTAL (no pun intended).  I shall try again tonight, but perhaps without double health slywink
