Did the ending go gold along with it or will they patch it in later?

Pre-ordered! (44.99 shipped at liongames thankyouverymuch).

Not a big fan of the series (thank you Halo2) but have to see how it ends...and maybe I'll give MP a shot though FPS MP bugs me.

Very excited-and so sick about hearing of no ending. Seriously. So incredibly old. Have you ever seen Empire Strikes Back. SAME IDEA. DEAL WITH IT.

No interest here either.  Probably the most overrated series ever, imo.

I'll agree that this is a very overrated series, however I played 1 and 2, so I must finish the fight! Tongue

the mp coop interests me although the game in general didn't make it into the top 10 fps of all time list.  that last sequence in h1 burned me out on the game.  i never touched h2 and i seriously doubt i'll ever end up with the pc version as the vista premium still sits unopened on my shelf.

i regret not going with liongames for the ce though.  a great price and i could've lived with the shipping delays.

it's really just another casualty of the fourth quarter game glut.

I wouldn't say I have 0 interest in it, just 0 consoles to play it on.  icon_confused

I can understand people being less than overwhelmed with Halo 2, but IMHO Halo 1 was at it's time of release easily one of the best FPS's ever created. And I had a blast playing it in co-op and offline mplay with friends. There's just not many things about the 1st game I could really find fault with. The only criticism I can think of is that the story wasn't so original; borrowed quite a bit IMO from Ring World.

HALO 1 and 2 were awesome and the ending to HALO 2 rocked.  Most anticipated game of the year for me.

Day one purchase for me.  I'm anticipating a solid single player portion, great online co-op and team based multiplayer.  Do people really judge FPS games based on the story?
I do think Halo 3 will have a solid story, but this isn't George R R Martin.  I judge them based on gameplay. Gears of War and GRAW 2 had crappy stories, but that didn't hamper my enjoyment of those games.

Extremely excited about Halo 3 myself. I missed out on Halo 2 because of not owning an Xbox at the time, but just reading about the campaign and multiplayer options have me anticipating Halo 3 nearly as much as Mass Effect.

thumbsup Going to put my preorder in when I pick up Blue Dragon tonight.  This sets the bar for the console FPS experience.  The multiplayer beta was just amazing amounts of fun and I think I will be holding on to and playing this game for a long time.

Co-op campaign and the MP beta was a blast.

Of course considering how fun the COD4 beta is... that may be competing for my time.

I'm hoping that the single player will be much, much improved from Halo 2's disappointing campaign but I learned my lesson from it's predecessor and will not be attending a midnight launch this time out. Still, it will probably be a day one purchase for me.

My exact situation.  Never finished it and never played multi.  Not once.  My only hope is that 3 will GREATLY improve the single play.  Please.

You probably finished it and just didn't realize it.

Co-op has been the only portion of the Halo series that makes it fun to play, so I'll probably rent it at least - there's just so many great games out right now I can't justify dropping money into a series that has underwhelmed me so much...

Even the "borrowing" it's hard in todays day and age to not be influenced by previous works. The only fault I found was the Library level. Boring and repetitive. I was OK with backtracking though... it's just too bad that they didn't have a giant lake to play with.

There's a great write-up in Wired this month about Halo3 and the science of play.  It is convincing me that Halo3 will be a stupendous experience.

There have been comments about how Halo2 actually had to be rushed and the fact that they ran out of time contributed to the 'ending'.

Also, they are tweaking every square foot of gameplay space to make sure it is balanced.  Very interesting.

They had three years to work on it!  More time in fact between Halo 1 & 2 than Halo 2 & 3.

Yeah but according to the previously mentioned article, basically everything was scrapped and started over with a year to go.

Bungie had a generous amount of time to work on Halo 1 as it was originally going to be a PC exclusive. The game was then significantly delayed when Microsoft bought them up. IIRC it was in the making for about 4 -5  years.

Right, but most of the game got scrapped along the way there- it was first an RTS, then a third person action game, then finally a FPS.  I've read that the bulk of the game as we know it was put together in the final ten months with is why it had a relatively poor showing at E3 that year only to blow everyone away six months later.

If you miss Halo 2's ending you WILL be missing a lot. Cortana's meeting with Gravemind wasn't filler; there is a point.

If you're interested you can go to Iris's wiki page and read about the latest viral campaign, watch the videos, read log transcripts and delve deep into the rich story that is provided for you outside of the game.

Half-Life's "story" is a joke compared to Halo's story and to be honest all other FPS games pale in comparison.
