Those drop pods looked like a human design, not flood or covenant.  The main troops known for using those pods in Halo were the Helljumpers, those guys with black, purple, and grey armor, and purple visors.  We also know something is being planned with the helljumpers in mind.  It was rumored to be a Helljumper based game that's more tactical action.

And thus our young hero, Turtle, revealed that perhaps he takes Halo a little too seriously....

Bah, I'm big on concept art so I look at stuff like vehicle designs.  slywink  I even collect production art books from movies and games, including the Halo and Mass Effect books.

That and Halo rumors are freaking everywhere.

I rather enjoyed Halo 3 and played through the campaign twice and many hours of MP.  I look forward to a Bungie developed expansion campaign.

New info and a full trailer released.

It's a new campaign with a new hero a Recon soldier.  Not sure if it's a spartan or just a normal guy.  However, it does look like he'll be interacting with a new AI companion, and let's hope it's a little unstable so we get some classic Durandal interactions.

No word on any gameplay changes either, but overall it looks interesting.

I'm also not clear on whether it's a DLC or a retail package.  Word right now is that it's both.

Just read that its a stand alone DVD release with its own MP maps along with the SP campaign.

I was really hoping Bungie was making a game outside of the Halo universe (and maybe they still are.)  I may be getting jaded, but I am growing tired of companies milking franchises.

Heh, this pack probably fills some contractual obligation to MS.  But also, they may have a bit more freedom, and development time, to actually craft a more unique experience and try including more story elements.

Release date being a year away is disappointing, at least in the sense that it's sending mixed messages.  On one hand it feels like a nice expansion/side story.  Then again having it presumably in development for two years, announced a year early (1.5 years if Bungie had got their way at E3), and a big holiday '09 release (when MS obviously won't have Gears 3) makes it feel like they are trying to make it Halo 4.  So it really throws expectations all out of whack.

Much to my surprise I'm really looking forward to this, mostly because 1 and 3 still get decent playtime in my household and this will have the mplay features I look for. I do agree that a 2009 release date makes the announcement premature: I was really expecting this to be a holiday 2008 title. If it ends up being like the Halo 2 map back and only costing $20-$30 I'll be happy; provided the quality is decent of course.

Yeah, I'd actually like a much more tactical Halo 3.  Still run and gun based, but since you're not a spartan or have the special armor, there's a tiny bit more emphasis on using cover and stealth.

Whether is stand up as the big name AAA title MS wants it falls in line with what people have said MS wants to do for the 360. Have a big exclusive for each fall by going back and forth between Halo and GoW.

Eh... if this is Bungie made, I don't think you could say Bungie was milking the license.  If they can present a better, more personal story on top of the Halo timeline that'd be great.  And it looks like there's a new AI that was running traffic control in New Mombasa that the main character will interact with.

Halo Wars, though, that's a bit of milking, even though I am actually looking forward to it.

What this game should be is focused entirely on the battle that was played up in all their marketing commercials/murals whatever.

That would be awesome.  You see first hand what Master Chief did to swing the tide....etc.

The really sad thing is that that marketing campaign was better than the whole halo3 storyline/game.

I highly disagree.  That first Scarab fight alone was better than the commercials.

Besides, commercials are commercials.  There are scabs of games that show commercials that have nothing to do with the gameplay, whatsoever.

I think all MC really did in that New Mombasa besides what he destroyed, was he was such a high profile target to the covenant that they diverted everything to try and kill him.  slywink

Hey, if it's as long as 5 hours it's almost as long as the original GOW's SP campaign, and there's no doubt the expansion will include a slew of new MP content. I'd pay $30 for this.

If they made it $20 I bet it would sell like hotcakes.  I'd buy it in a heartbeat.  While I've paid a full $60 for other fairly short games (COD4, Gears of War, etc), they also offered compelling MP modes to extend the game's value.  We already have Halo 3 MP.  For a 3-5 hour campaign I might pay $30, but I'd prefer a streamlined $20.

Huh, can't say I like the name change- "Recon" sounds better than ODST (even if the latter is known among hardcore Halo fans).  I'd rather they called it Helljumpers but I doubt that would fly at retail.

I really like what I'm hearing about the campaign though.
