Various news sites are reporting that Microsoft has announced that Halo 2 has sold over 5,000,000 copies since release. Pretty good considering that's like about 30% of the total installed base for the console. They also reported that over 900,000 people have played Halo 2 over Xbox Live. Couldn't find a link to the full press release, but here's the Voodoo Extreme article

Worth noting that the 5 million figure is worldwide. Not to take anything away from the achievement though.

I'm actually more impressed that X-Box apparently has an installed base of 15 million. I honestly had no idea it was that many.

Yeah, that is a LOT of copies. I just hope MS isn't copping out and giving the number of shipped units. But who am I to doubt them? I wanted to buy a box solely to play the game.

1UP also commented that Xbox sales were up 50% compared to the same period a year ago. No mean feat, given that there hasn't been a price drop in that time.

Amazing. I recall analysts stating they expected Halo 2's sales to eventually top the ten million mark worldwide. I thought that was insane. It doesn't seem so impossible now, though. Halo 2 has managed to sell more copies in one month than the first Halo did in three years.
No doubt, purchasing Bungie was one of the best moves Microsoft made (in gaming). If only Rare could deliver similar results...

No, I believe Xbox was dropped to $149 before last year's holiday season. PS2 dropped to $179, and didn't drop $149 until E3 in May. This is all from memory though, so you may still be right.

Actually, I was running from memory also... and I was right (Barely, looks like it went into effect on March 30th) http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0%2C1759%2C1556281%2C00.aspIts still a great achievement though. Hopefully I will add to the 5 million H2 sold statistic come Christmas. If not, then I will remedy the situation shortly after with some exchanges.
