Yeah, here's a snip:

Quote
"All versions require an Internet connection upon installation" to prove the legitimacy of a player's copy, Lombardi said. "This is for authentication/anti-piracy purposes. Once this has been completed, the owner of either the retail or the Steam version can play Half-Life 2 single player in offline mode."

I'm going to send this over to Road to Gold as HL2 has not yet been released.

Thanks for the find, though.

Well I guess that leaves me out, I don't have internet at home anymore.  I don't really miss it that much, except when I need to pull something down.  When that happens I just head over to my dad's place and use his cable modem.  I suppose I could drag my machine over there, register the game, then take it home.  That's quite a bit of work just to play a game, so I doubt I even mess with it.  I'll probably still be deep into San Andreas anyway...  smile

You know, odds are, the 'usual' sites will have an executable that allows you to get around the whole registration thing day 1.

So I don't even know why companies try these kinds of things.

Yeah, exactly, this will only stop the most casual, mom and pop piracy.  Micro$oft was the first with this type of mandatory 'net registration and it was cracked.

Maybe they will have a phone number you can call to register, like Symantec does.
