...and the servers are full...figures.

It is available only via Steam.  I know many people have problems with Steam, but basically from the splash page you are downloading the meat of the game and will have the first opportunity to play the game when it is released.  I am going to guess you can make it "live" when the game goes gold, although this is only a guess.

And yes, I know this is PC discussion, but I know a lot of people are interested in this game.

I think I finally got in about 10 min. ago and I'm already almost 50% done.  Supposedly this is 2GB big, we'll see if that's true or not.

Yep, just found the files as they are loading.  My one file is currently over a gig.  Looks like 2 .gcf files so far.

base source materials.gcf (the big one)
platform.gcf (I think this was the initial load as the time is when I first logged into Steam for the update)

Servers are still full for me frown

I guess this means we should see it fairly soon then?  Maybe?

I tried several (ok, many) times over about 5-10 minutes and got started. At 35% now after about 15 minutes.

My prediction is that they will have a buy through steam before you can get it in the store option. Otherwise, it really doesn't make any sense to have a preload.

I finally got in last night as well.

I think it makes perfect sense to preload now.  Can you imagine how hard the servers would get slammed on launch if they didn't allow people to preload a majority of the game before.  Now  we all need only a small portion of the game to complete it, which will put much less stress on the servers.

I hope it comes out to us first though, as in the next few weeks slywink

I wasn't going to do it. I really wasn't. I was going to wait and pickup a hard copy at a store after release.

But damned Valve has a real racket going here. How can you sit there, stare at that Pre-Load button, and not press it when you know it means you get to play the game the very MINUTE it's released?

Bastards. All of them.
