Less than 4 hours to go.  The calm before the storm.  The race to page 2 so we can have real impressions has begun.

I got excited and though the game had been unlocked early or something.

Then I remembered the second page rule.

Then I hated you.

I hate you.

I'm checking out Steam's Status page: Linky

Quote

Bandwidth Used       6,766 Mbps
Bandwidth Available 11,200 Mbps

Interesting stuff.  If you look at the graph for today you'll notice a steady ramping up of used bandwith while available bandwith remains constant.  Maybe they will get hammered when the game is released?

We all know it's a love-hate kinda thing.  No biggie.   biggrin

Actually I'm doing you a favor.  The more we pad this baby to page 2 the faster time accelerates and the faster The Great Unlocking happens.

So hate me.  But thank me also.

I dunno if I'm staying up for this one...

Chances are I'll go to play EQ2, get immersed, forget about the HL2 release, and only remember next afternoon that HL2 is unlocked and I can play it now.

Did I mention I'm more excited about Bloodlines?

Decided to start my preload. I hope my downloading clogs the network and all you fools trying to activate can't.

Well actually I am still trying to decide if/when/and how I want to get this one. I know I will, I'm just not sure when.

here's a post for your

my pre load is at almomst at 88%   yay for progress.

i do find it a little odd that i told steam to concentrate on half life 2 and ignore cs source, yet it stopped at 83% and started up cs source.   the last 5% has all been due to cs grabbing the same files.  unusual system this steam is

I am not staying up for it. I would unlock it and want to play it, and seeing as I am only gong to get 5 hours of sleep if I hit the sack now (not going to happen), I am not sure this is the best idea smile

I'm still trying to decide if I should stay up or not.

Reasons I Really Shouldn't

     It's only a game.
I have to be up and start being a Dad at 8:15. Tomorrow morning I take Amelia to the much-dreaded Music Class.
We're paying for childcare tomorrow afternoon ostensibly so I can get some work done between 2-6pm. If I'm exhausted from playing games all night, me no write so good.
Reasons I Really Should

       It's Half-life 2. That's really all I need to make a decision, but regardless, I'll continue.
I want to experience Half-life 2 for the first time late at night with the lights off and the family in bed. That's not gonna happen for another 24 hours. AN ETERNITY.
I have a large glass of freshly-brewed, sweetened, and chilled coconut and vanilla flavored Boca Java iced coffee for energy.
I have a new tube of Tollhouse Cookie Dough in the fridge for sustenance.
Any gamer worth his salt knows exactly what has to be done.
And I am nothing if not salt.
      MORTON SALT.

I may end up being awake when it unlocks and load it up, but no play for me tonight frown

i was going to catch a quick nap before 3am...it's not panning out though.  i was flipping through tv channels before i dozed off on the couch and came across Long Way Around, ewan mcgregor's motorcycle trip around the world, on Bravo...very interesting show.  so now it's 1:30am and i'm still awake.  only 90 minutes to go though Cool

has anyone else checked the Steam Network Status recently?  i think it's pretty interesting that the available bandwidth took a significant jump a little while ago...guess they're gearing up for the big moment...

I'm tired and sleepy now, but the problem is... if I don't stay up, some of you lunatics will run through the damn game before I wake up in the morning. I'll come here and find the thread:

Finished Half Life 2! - SPOILERS!

Other fun posts I'm looking forward to:

      "the ending sucked!"

"meh... it's nothin' new. been there, done that"

"why did I buy this game? I don't even like first person shooters!"

ooh, almost forgot.  my manager has connections with valve and was able to visit the offices last week.  got a chance to speak with the big man himself and ask him a few questions.  valve has an unusual office decoration in the entry, a large cast iron water valve.  the office is also arranged somewhat like the mesa complex; crates stacked around, beautiful carpet and bare slab floors in the halls.  manager thought it very unusual to look at.

he also got to play with the gravity gun a little.  i can't wait to use this in action.

      60 minutes.  97%.  yay!

This is one of those times where living on the west coast has a bit of an advantage smile I only have to stay up until midnight to see the game. I might even be vaguely coherent at work tomorrow. Those Hawaiian bastards are even luckier.

Great. I am still not asleep. I got out of bed after tossing and turning for an hour and saw what time it was and figured I might as well come down here and check out if this works smile

EDITED to correct it to reflect that I am in fact, NOT asleep right now.
