Supposedly they cut 5-7 stations from the disc release (but you keep them if you go the DLC route).  I had been planning on getting the disc for the extra station but upon finding out one of the cut stations is The Journey, I think I'll stick with the DLC.

I'd be surprised if it was a disc space issue.  As others noted, I'm guessing they just opted not to renew the license on a lot of the music, perhaps as a way to make the expansions more cost effective.
