Gratuitous Tank Battles is coming to the PC and Mac, developed by Positech Games, makers of Democracy, Kudos and of course Gratuitous Space Battles. Gratuitous Tank Battles is an RTS/Tower Defense hybrid with online elements and customisable units. The player can take the role of the defender or the attacker in a series of top-down explodey fun. A built-in map editor will allow easy sharing of custom maps and defensive challenges with other GTB players in a similar fashion to GSB's challenge system.

I imagine I'll finally get around to Space Battles by the time this is released

Ooh.  I think they're onto something here.  I had fun with Gratuitous Space Battles but it was super freeform.  I think with the added structure they're putting into Tank Battles it'll really up the addiction and replayability.

man I loved space battles. I was far too addicted to building my ships and trying to get the smallest amount I could to beat a mission.

Loved GSB.  Need to get back into it as I barely scratched the surface.  Sanctum is my new addiction, though. 

The addition of a Tower Defense mechanic intrigues me with this one.

I clicked the link and i'm pretty sure all i see is Gratuitous tower defense...wth?

Except you can design every turret and unit in the game. You can also play as the turrets OR the attackers. Lastly you can chose your path in the fly and choose targets. So, yes, it has a base Turret Defense design, but there is a lot more going on here.

Anyone preorder and have the beta yet? I'd have gotten it, but ME3 cleaned me out for this month, and the GW2 preorder will clear me out next, so it's looking pretty slim right now....

and it's out.  I'm tempted, but with all the other games that just came out and are coming out next week I;m gonna hold off until at least the summer sale.

I bit.  Unfortunately it's a little buggy right now.  It freezes up every couple of seconds for a few seconds at a time.  It's stuttering pretty badly overall.  I posted on the steam forums in another thread by someone with the same problem.  Cliff is already on it so I fully expect it to be fixed soon.
