that 'CJ' picture is on page 1 Spigot
i have been speculating on CVG when the game will be released
Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas was released on Playstation 2 in 2004(with a Xbox version a year later),GTA4 was released 4 years later in April 2008 for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360
It will be 4 years next April since GTA4,the first trailer for GTA4 was shown March 2007,over a year earlier and the second trailer in June 2007,however there are a few other things to note
This time GTA5 will be using the same game engine as GTA4 The game will appear on the same Generation of consoles(unlike GTA:SA >> GTA4)
and the biggie -Grand Theft Auto 4 was originally going to be released in October 2007,but it was pushed back to April 2008..so when the first trailer was released Rockstar had planned for the game to be released some 6 or so months later
so maybe another April release for next year?,here's hoping

I need to hear more about the new features and game mechanics (and elimination of annoying features) before I'll be impressed or unimpressed. Just seeing that it's in California and that the graphics are better doesn't tell me much.

finally got to watch if in a higher definition. doesn't look bad, maybe a step or two up from GTA IV's graphics. now to see how they set up the main character- I could never get into playing CJ so if they go that route again I'll be wary.

There's way more detail here, and the people look more real than in GTA4, both in looks and behavior.

Rockstar's official announcement has a few details - We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development.
Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.
A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

yeah i was thinking it was more or less set when the game was released...although nothing i can think of in the game can pinpoint the year
just like it can't be CJ either as GTA:SA was set in 1992
I am gutted that it isn't they whole of San Andreas, but them saying it is their biggest game ever gives me hope, but GTA4 was roughly half the size of San Andreas

The GTA Wikia also says its set in 2008,same as its expansions however they also have this Despite the current era supposedly being set in April of 2008, all available calendars within the game are depicted as being from either 2002 or 2013. This is evident as the 29th of April (the game's release date and the month depicted on the calendars) falls on a Tuesday in 2008 whereas all the in-game calendars (except for the one in Brucie's garage, which depicts the month of July) show the 29th falling on a Monday. The only recent years in which the 29th of April have or will fall on a Monday are 2002 and 2013.

There is a Q and A on Max Payne 3 Herehowever they answer a question on GTA5 “Rockstar, I really can't wait for new information about the new GTA. And is it only in Los Santos or too in SF and LV?” - MatsvanStam
As we revealed in our announcement about the game being officially in full development, Grand Theft Auto V is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches – and it will be the largest and most ambitious open world game we’ve ever created…
bigger than Red Dead Redemption or GTA:San Andreas?..

Contrary to what the designers might think, you can have a virtual world that is too big. This very reason is why I never bothered to finish San Andreas. Well, that and the horrid flying controls in the mandatory flying missions.

I would rather have smaller open worlds / stories and then expansion packs or large DLC to expand as needed.

Well, that and the horrid flying controls in the mandatory flying missions. The flying controls were pretty awful. I bought a PS2 just so I could play San Andreas when it came out, but got stuck at the flying missions, specifically the one where you had to intercept the Lear Jet with your light plane. It wasn't till I got the PC version of the game that I was able to complete that mission and go through the rest of the game. I liked the large world of GTASA and mostly because it wasn't just all one large city like GTA IV. The different terrains, the tiny towns, the air strip, the open pit mine, I think the sum of all of them made the large amount of time it took to complete the campaign enjoyable. That's also why I liked Red Dead Redemption. Frankly all the neighborhoods in Liberty City in GTA IV tended to blend together after a while for me.

I look at GTASA as three games, revolving around the three big cities. Sadly I think that because of the massive amount of file size that has to be dedicated to all those hi-res objects in games like GTA IV we won't be seeing large scale games like GTASA again.... or at least until the Xbox 720 comes out

while i too hated the flying,i think James Woods repeating ''you gotta learn to fly,CJ" bugged me more
and although the size of the game does excite me,i think what i really want to see are more environments like JZ says, which is what i loved from San Andreas(cities, desert, woodland etc),but GTA4 was all Liberty City,so it 'felt' a bit repetitive
They can keep the celebrity voices away though,IMO,although it was fun to hear people like Sammy Jackson,Burt Reynolds or Ray Loitta,if it means cutting the cost then like GTA4 they wont be missed i am sure there are other non celebrity VO artists who can do just as good a job

To be honest, I thought IV was just the right size. Large enough for variety, but small enough that I actually finished it. Vice City was also a manageable size. Like jz said, he felt San Andreas was like three games in one, and for me that was just too much, especially given the amount of distance a player had to travel either within a mission, to find a mission, or to complete a mission. The music made a lot of the traveling tolerable, but after a while even it wasn't enough to combat the boredom. Also, the friendship missions in GTA IV and the body maintenance nonsense in San Andreas all need to go.

I hated that I dominated every neighborhood in the first section of SA, and then the "time to move to section two" happened, and I lost all of it. Had I known that was going to happen, I wouldn't have wasted my time.

Rockstar2 new screens and a Q and A(more in the link) “What is going on with GTAV?” – received via Mouthoff We are very busy working on the game! Everything is going well, but the game is a huge project. We should have more information and some new assets for you soon. “Why don’t you give us more news?” – received via Mouthoff As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you… it’s not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.
“Hey guys hope everything is good over there in Rockstar. Just a question referring to GTA 4, the game was brilliant and I really enjoyed and still do, but what disappointed me was the lack of planes and jets... Can you tell me why you didn't include them, I'm sure you have a very valid reason?” – via Mouthoff The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying. It was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale – we simply could not make an environment big enough for planes to work properly. Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date. They also talk about Max Payne 3 and RDR sequel(just says to stay tuned for news..which isn't bad news really) and unfortunately, there is also this “Is there any possibility GTA III or Vice City will become available to purchase/download on the Xbox live marketplace like San Andreas has?” – PURSER_THEPAIN Due to compatibility issues and other technical limitations, we do not have any plans to make Grand Theft Auto III or Vice City available on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
