Oh yeah! It's been announced!

Not much (or any) detail at this point, but a trailer is coming next week. The "V" in the logo seems telling about the setting. Anyone care to speculate what it means?

Due to the size and some of the game elements of San Andreas I had started to really get burned out on the series.  And then IV came along and revitalized it completely.  If V will be anywhere near as compelling as IV, then I'll be in from the start.  IV, for me, was the absolute pinnacle of the GTA series thus far and by quite a margin.  Don't get me wrong, I loved Vice City, but more due to the music and setting than anything else.  But the characters, story elements, voice acting, and experiencing the story of Niko first-hand made for one hell of a gaming experience.

I'm anxious to see where they go with things in V.

I hope in this game you're the personal assistant to some big rap star, and you constantly get calls from him to go pick up meals, or meet him at a club or pick up a girlfriend for him, all while you're trying to play the main part of the game.  And he's constantly calling you. Or texting you.  And you have to open up an in-game scheduler and coordinate his social life.  Then there can be a mini-game with a meter and it slowly fills up while you wait for him outside of a recording studio, and if you move at all, it resets from the beginning.

Niko's story was great and compelling (and I thought CJ's story was equally a step up from what had come before San Andreas), but all that other social networking crap was just awful (CJ's weight training was a little better, but only just).  Fortunately it went away for the DLC packs, so maybe they've learned their lesson.  I hope so. 

My guess for what the money five means is that we'll be back in Las Venturas, but it really could be anything.  Or anything American, I guess.  It looks like London's out.

Considering the announcement is in the form of a trailer (this is sort of like a pre-announcement), wouldn't it be awesome if the game is pretty much ready to ship and we'll get it before Christmas? Yeah, fat chance I know, but there's always the slight possibility that Rockstar have been able to keep something as huge as that under wraps.

I always want to like the GTA games, but never do.  I think it's just the theme of the game...I have no interest in being a criminal and was never into movies about gangs, criminals, mafia, etc.  I do thank Rockstar, though, for helping to create a genre (open-world games like this), because I loved Read Dead Redemption and games that I adore like Batman Arkham City owe GTA a lot.

I just hope they focus the experience a bit more, take a "less is more" philosophy on this one.  I appreciate how they keep trying to push the "do anything!" envelope, but they've been erring too far on the side of "annoying fluff" with the last few titles.

I doubt it will be before Christmas,but this was on CVG

In June, sources allegedly close to the developer said the title is "well under way", with final touches like mini-games already being applied.

however,they also said this

GamePro thinks it's likely to be Vice City, Venturas, or a GTAified version of Washington, DC.  That one would be very cool (and seems kinda likely).

You think the uproar has been bad before?  If they try and put it in a fictionalized DC and have you rampaging through the monument district?  You'd be asking for politicians to try and throw out the First Amendment and pass laws banning violent video games.

[edit] has Rockstar ever released two major titles in the same year?  Max Payne 3 is supposedly due out in the beginning of the year, and I remember last time they aimed for a fall GTA release it got pushed back to April of the next year.

Although they don't present any evidence to back it up, Kotaku is claiming to have word from an insider that GTA V will be set in Los Angeles and may feature more than one playable character over the course of the story.  It's all strictly rumor though...

What i want to find out from the trailer
which City the game is set
a look at the Player/s
and to find out when the game is set,Vice City was the 80s,San Andreas was the 90s GTA4 was the 2000s..will GTA5 be 2012?
and a planned release date

anything else i suppose i am fine with not knowing yet


I think i would of liked a couple more games inbetween before GTA5 actually came out,like Vice City and San Andreas was after GTA3 but before GTA4

There's some catchy tunes and some guy in a VO saying he wanted to move out west and be a good guy, a Dad, but well you know how it is...and then the crime montage starts.

Definitely looks modern/current, and some of the new car features were pretty cool (namely the convertible with the auto-top).  Overall I'm certainly intrigued and will definitely give it a try.

Just saw it. Looks like mostly modern, contemporary California-ish setting to me. Having now just watched it, I'm not really any more excited than when it was first announced.

I love what some people have spotted on some of the forums

someone is walking a dog on the beach at the beginning of the trailer,a first i think for animals in GTA(except seagulls+ pigeons etc)

I did notice the Mile High skyscraper,but not that it was being built by STD Contractors

some people are saying the voice is the return of Tommy Vercetti,that would be cool if true,not entirely sure it was Ray Liotta,but i have not seen or heard him for some time

however,some people say its the same guy who voices Frank West..Zombies confirmed for GTA?,LOL

someone also says they saw CJ being chased by the cops and Niko Bellic as a Homeless person(holding up a 'need cash' sign),i will have to scan the trailer again(EDIT:looks a little like them both,but i am not that convinced)

Just saw the trailer up at YouTube: Good shit! This might be the first GTA game I might actually play thru. I still have copies of GTAIII and Vice City in my backlog that I should dust off and put more time in.
