According to 1Up Sony is making good on their promise to beef up the PSP's software lineup with these three games.  There's also supposed to be many more announcements coming this year.  icon_biggrin

It's great news! Finally it's time to find my PSP somewhere in my house.  thumbsup

However, I read that Sony's not going to add 2nd analog for new PSP system that's coming out soon.  thumbsdown

The new PSP could be cool...

But yeah, tons of stuff coming this year for the PSP. Really good news.

The big question is will Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur have online play like the console versions?  If they do I think that will be a big selling point.  T6 online vs mode in my pocket?  Yes, please.

Yay! More cannon fodder for the pirates, and three more titles that will sell horribly due to their underground influence.

These latest sets of announcements don't impress me at all. Another forum member (sorry, can't remember who to credit) recently stated that a large part of the PSP's problem is that they are releasing games that just seem like stripped down versions of their larger PS3 cousins. I really wish they would take these titles off on a tangent like Metal Gear Acid did for the Metal Gear series, or Killzone: Liberation did for the Killzone series.

I would prefer a Resistance SRPG to a pocket sized FPS that exactly mimics the PS3 releases.
I would prefer an Assassin's Creed or Soul Calibur RPG to a watered down version of the flagship titles.

Sony needs to do a complete reboot of the PSP line. Currently the PSP=the coastline of Somalia.

If they do a good job with it, I might pick up the PSP release of Gran Turismo.

Even with pirates doing their best to screw everything up, Tekken: Dark Resurrection sold over 1 million copies in NA.

But yeah, totally agree, these games *NEED* online play.

The good news is that, supposedly, they've been developing the PSP version of GT fooooorrrrrrrrrrever already! So maybe all the delays are behind us!

Really?  Over the juggernaut that is the DS and the newly released DSi?  Not a chance.

While the DSi is a new model, it's really nothing more than an "upgrade" as this new PSP would be a completely new re-design.

I would also argue that the game line-up, for the entire year (that's key, here), favors the PSP because of the huuuuuge titles coming down the pipeline.

Maybe Nintendo's going to announce a new Mario game this e3, all bets are off till we've seen their hand, but I think 2009 is a re-birth of the PSP.

The lineup doesn't matter if the PSP is going to continue to get smoked by the DS in terms of hardware and software sales.

According to NPD, the DS sold 1.66 million units through March.  The PSP sold 539,000.  A 3-to-1 shortfall after just three months for the PSP makes any proclamations of 2009 being the year of the PSP look silly.

Besides, how can something be reborn if it was already dead on arrival?

If a new Mario is announced the DS will murder the PSP in every sales number.  If a new Mario isn't announced the DS will murder the PSP in every sales number.

I absolutely do not expect the PSP to outsell the DS, I don't think that is what depward meant when he proclaimed 2009 as the "year of the PSP."

Maybe I'm being misunderstood, but I'm not proclaiming the PSP the winner in outright sales by any means. I haven't even thought about sales. I'm just happy we're finally getting something new for the PSP since I've been using mine much less lately compared to my DS.

Good games came out for it, right?  LBP, KZ, MGS4...

PROCLAIMING "the year of x" doesn't equate proclaiming sales dominance.  So what - I think the PSP line-up for 2009 is stacked?  I can't PROCLAIM it's going to be an awesome year?!

Mr. pr0ner, and all of those that looooove to say how the PSP sucks, how it's dead, etc. - you guys are really missing out on some fantastic titles.  It's a shame, really..

You guys crack me up.

When someone declares "the year of X", the implication is that X will be better than everything else. I don't see any way that 2008 can be regarded as the year of the PS3, nor that this year can be regarded as the year of the PSP.

Maybe last year could be seen as "the PS3's best year yet" and this year might be "the PSP's best year yet", but that's semantically a far cry from "the year of X". slywink

There's so many awesome games from last year and this year across all platforms that it doesn't really matter to me which one has the banner year. biggrin

No.  It is not.

Saying 2009 is the year of the PSP inherently means that it won't be the year of the DS.  That assertion clearly couldn't be more wrong four months into the year.

Hyperbole doesn't lend itself well to semantic scrutiny.

If they do a good job with it, I might pick up the PSP release of Gran Turismo.

And if it's anything like the constant delays of the PS3 version, it'll be out sometime in 2012.

As I said in the other thread (although this is probably the proper place for that discussion) Gran Turismo was going to be out for the PSP back when the PSP first launched.

Yeah, absolutely not holding my breath for Gran Turismo PSP. I would rather they go full-steam ahead for GT5 on the PS3.
