Worthplaying is doing a countdown and currently only have up 20-11 with 11 being Mass Effect.  Will have to wait to see what the top 10 are and the final winner

Portal would be my choice, too.  It's a hard one to pick because it's a smaller game and part of a bigger package, but it really was the most polished gameplay experience I'd had in years.  And this was an incredible year for gaming.  Nice one, Joystiq.

Behind Portal, I'd go Bioshock, so I'm glad to see it getting some nods, too.

I'll wager that once most game sites GOTY's are in, Call of Duty 4 and Super Mario Galaxy will have the most honors. SMG would still be my GOTY pick, but there's a lot of games I played this year that are very close to it; Bioshock and the Orange Box (Portal) in particular. I haven't played CoD 4 yet, but based upon many GT'ers comments it definitely deserves GOTY honors.

Funny how Halo 3 hasn't been named GOTY by any site yet.

Well yeah as in f'in 'A' eh yuh wise guy! I know I should get a PS3...I mean I can count the must haves now on more than 1 hand.  Unfortunately 2  kids and having to contribute to putting a nephew thru college get in the way. On a positive note, my nephew grad's this year and he'll be moving back close to me. One of the 1st things he's comitted to is a new job and a PS3 that I can play with him on. I can't tell you how proud and pumped I'm for my nephew starting in on his career this summer. Expect a lot of PS3 "Oh my Gosh this game is great" and " WOW This is awesome" from me come the Fall.

well, if he gets Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Motorstorm he should be fine for awhile.  I got to play some MS on New Years Eve and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, enough to plan to add it to my collection soon.

Actually, what pisses me off the most about the whole console thing is that, in the past when there were only 2 consoles to choose from, it was easier to just get them both.  But now that there are 3 major consoles (4 if you count The Phantom... bwahaha!), it's kind of forcing a "pick two" decision on you.  Having three consoles just seems excessive, especially if someone also plays PC games, and/or has portable systems.

There IS a such thing as too much of a good thing.

I wasn't wowed by the Resistance demo (I hear it was a poor representation but even the general gameplay did wow me) and I'm not sure how I felt about the Folklore one- I mean other than the zippy graphics it felt like it was missing something.  I may be picking up Warhawk this weekend though.
