I wholeheartedly second almost all of the recommendations (except for the Resident Evils, I just hate the controls for those games, blech! But that's just my preference.)

Just make sure you get Eternal Darkness. Man is that game ever awesome!!!!!!

Another recommendation for Paper Mario here. Also, if you like console RPGs and never played Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast, pick up Skies of Arcadia Legends if you can find it. A real gem of a game (although be prepared for LOTS of random battles).

What to recommend... hmm... having owned a bajillion cube games...

Let's start from the top.

1080 Avalanche, you can get this used for less than 15 bucks, and it's worth it for the avalanches alone

Second Animal Crossing, it's quirky fun, you'll play it for a month and then be done with it.

Beach Spikers is the only Beach Volleyball game worth owning this generation

Fully second the Eternal Darkness recommendation, it's a very fun game that first time through.

I'll go on and even recommend Crystal Chronicles, it's a charming game and now that it's more affordable it's definately worth the price.

For a good old school challenge you must find Ikaruga. If you get into arcade type games this one will hold you breathless for quite a while. Worth every penny.

I've enjoyed Double Dash a lot. At first glance it feels like nothing more than a weak update, but play it with some people, especially two to a car and it's a whole new and fun experience.

Rent Luigi's Mansion, you can beat it in a rental and it's worth it. It's a hugely underrated game that's a lot of fun but lacks long legs.

If you haven't played it yet, get Metal Arms Glitch in the System, it's a great action shooter and definately one of last years best games.

Metroid Prime, which I thought you said you were getting, is great too. It's a whole different feel from your standard FPS and it's definately a lot of fun. I dare anyone to point out a more well done level in anygame that's better than Phendrana Drifts, the first time you come out into that area it's practically jaw dropping. Retro Studios artists and stage designers are tops at creating a natural organic feel in a game.

Of course Paper Mario needs to be gotten, just one look at the Impressions thread and that should lock it in for you.

Get both Pikmin games, easily two of the better games out in this generation. A very addictive quality to both titles, and just a really well done control scheme that makes playing the games intuitive.

Try Pitfall the Lost Expedition- Seriously, too many people passed up on this game which was a lot of fun. It has some really nifty mechanics which use both analog sticks and the stages are very well done. It's definately a game that went under too many people's radar, and I think the fact that it was tied to the Pitfall name hurt it more than helped.

I can't recommend Second Sight enough, I still think it had one of the better stories from a game this year.

Summoner: A goddess Reborn is a very solid and enjoyable RPG game that you may want to look into. It's more on the actiony side but has all the trappings of a good RPG, an interesting story, decent characters, well developed world...

To me, Swingerz Golf is still the best golf game available for any system. It has a perfect balance of real physics and arcade gameplay. The characters are forgettable, but each is actually different in play style and abilities, but the courses, gameplay and challenges make this one a sleeper.

Tales of Symphonia couldn't be recommended any higher. Lots of fun, quick paced battles, halfway interesting story, good characters, good voice work and a lengthy adventure.

Any and all games with the words "Legend of Zelda" in the title, even four swords. All of the are worthy of purchase and you'll have many hours of gaming invested in each.

Wave Race Blue Storm is another highly underrated title. If you like more simplistic yet challenging racing games this is the one for you. Sure it's been passed graphically, but the water physics are second to none and once you get the hang of things you really start to enjoy the challenge.

Shoot I know there are more, like Super Mario Sunshine, Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2, the Resident Evils, RE4 will be amazing, and the Monkey Ball games...

Great thing about coming into a systems life so late is that you can get alot of these game on the cheap. You could probably buy all of the games  I just listed for under 250 bucks and not have to buy another game for a year or two.[/b]

Future recommendations: (they're not out yet but I'm super hyped)

Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (Not sure on the exact title, it is the platformer)
Fire Emblem Cubed.

A big second to METAL ARMS: GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM!  Great game and you can find it for $20.  Also has an awesome 4-player vs mode!
