I'm now the proud owner of a PSP.  biggrin

For the first time in my life, my father brought something back from a business trip for me. It was worth the wait!

This thing is a nifty little machine.

If you guys have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

How does it handle? I mean, does it feel comfortable in the hands after a few hours? Are the graphics and sound great? Will I regret preordering one? heh

Does the PSP fit in your pocket?

How is the battery life for a game?

OK - I got it Friday night and was sick as a dog all day yesterday so I haven't had all that much time with it yet but here's what I can tell you.

Button issue has been fixed:
http://psp.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3138532

The only game I have right now is Namco Museum and even some of the re-made versions look great. Leave it to my father to bring home the newest tech from Japan and 25 year old games to go with it!

Ridge Racer and Lumines are on the way and I should have them mid-week so that might answer a few more questions.

The screen is amazing.

It could fit in your pants pocket but I'd be too nervous. More like a jacket pocket.

It's very shiny, and is going to get covered in fingerprints. Kinda like how the back of an iPod does.

I think it's VERY comfortable to hold and all buttons are easily within reach. The analog stick is great and shoulder buttons are clear, which is kinda cool.

So far it lives up to expectations and I really think you guys will be happy with it.

I absolutely cannot wait for March 24!!

And as for the games you are getting mid-week, let's just say you better have locks on all your doors, or a certain Canadian may break in and steal them!!!

btw, what other games are you looking forward to from the launch list???
Gretzky Hockey??

Awesome, Devil.

I've got my preorder all paid off and I can't wait for the 24th!

I've also got Untold Legends, Darkstalkers and NFL Street 2 prerordered. I may also get Dynasty Warriors, since I am a big fan of the series and would love a handheld version of it for on the go playing or when my wife is watching some boring show on TV.

No problem!

I'm really looking forward to all the sports games at launch. Gretzky is #1 on my list but MVP or MLB, along with FIFA and NFL Street are others that I'm getting excited for. Darkstalkers could be fun too.

After playing around with it a bit more, I can assure you that you'll not be dissapointed. I threw a few songs and pictures on it as well. Menus are very slick too. I'm sure I'll find something I don't like about it, but I haven't yet. If Sony ever gets the rumored web browsing app up and running then this thing could take over the world!!

About the web browsing thing:  Do you think all one will need to utilize it if it actually happens is wi fi?  That will rule.

Also, one more question, can you listen to music while playing a game?

I have a WiFi network setup in my home already...man the PSP is going to sell like hotcakes (I think it will already) if they do get a web browser for it!

The PSP is going to be the next iPOD. It's the thing you just gotta have.

I also have a wi-fi network in the apartment and can't imagine how freaking awesome the psp will be with it.  You can play using xLink as well smile

-I would think that a wi-fi connection to the net would be all you needed since the PSP has wi-fi built in.

-I'm not sure about listening to music and playing at the same time. I do know that, either you can't in Namco Museum, or it's one of the 3 lines of Japanese in the whole game and I just don't understand how to do it.  biggrin

I have no idea how anyone could have launched a disc from this thing!!

It's one of those hinge/hook type closures for the UMD door and I'm sure someone could make some 'adjustments' to get the thing to fly open.

It isnt' really the type of equipment you want to wring out either. The force would damage almost any electronics. It ain't a frisbee!

I'm sorry, I really don't mean to troll, but I have to laugh at the fact that a few of you guys are freaking out - AWESOME TO THE MAXOR!!!!11!!123 - over Devil's impressions of the unit itself. He's just describing what the thing looks like, for God's sake. Sorry if I sound like an asshole, but it seemed funny to me.

Now then, I'm happy to hear that Sony has remedied the button problem, instead of just walking away after acknowledging it - "Yeah, it's busted, but it looks cool, so shut up and buy it, monkeys" - as it looked like they might do a month or so ago.

It sounds like the only questionable element is the battery life. If Sony hasn't bungled that up, then I'm starting to think the PSP is going to own hard. I wanted the DS to work, wanted developers to really use the unit's unique features, but I've begun to lose faith with that one. I am definitely interested to see how the PSP performs.

Dafones -

Not a problem at all. It's pretty clear you're a Nintendo guy and that's fine, but the defensiveness shows your dissapointment in 'The House That Mario Built' and it's not unwarranted.

Battery life, sticky buttons, flying discs, exploding units, the list goes on. If you don't want to like the PSP, you never will.

The only interest I have in the handheld wars is my own. Sony, Nintendo, MS, Sega, etc. I don't care who gets my money. as long as I get the best product and it's not even close.

Devil, I have more hope for the PSP than the DS. The only issue I have with the PSP is the battery life, and I know I'm not the only one. Every site has brought up this potential problem before me, and they're the only reason I even know about it. Never heard of the flying disks, never heard about the exploding units. I did hear about the faulty X buttons, but that's been fixed.

I thought the DS had potential (and still does), but it doesn't seem as if any games are coming out that take advantage of the unit. The PSP, meanwhile, has focused on raw power and working with standard controls, cramming a PS2 into a slick little unit with a great screen, and I think it's going to pay off - as long as the battery life isn't too poor, and as long as the system has the games to back it up. I do want to like the PSP, but I'm not going to let hype blind me from potential faults.

I agree with your last statement - read my sig! I don't care what name's on my unit, just as long as I enjoy whatever I'm playing.

The point I'm trying to make, and I agree with you on everything you've said, is that I'm playing Pac-Man at the moment and it's already worth it! biggrin

Try it out - I'd be shocked to see if anyone actually held the thing in their hands and were not impressed.

So, do you happen to have a digicam? If so, can we get some shots of the unit with something for measurement purposes? And too just drool over.

You need an internet web host or a place to upload the pictures. Then its as simple as using the [ img]addres here[/ img] to show them. If you dont have a host I can put them up on my site and post them here.

What is a PSP?

Well, I don't mean that literally, as I have heard of it.

But I thought it was like a gameboy with a little bigger screen?  Am I way out of the loop on this?

If so, do I want to get one of these Devil?

Educate the retard please!

Lockdown, here's a fairly detailed FAQ from IGN on the PSP. Has some pictures, and talks about the unit's guts, abilities, and what not.

Eco, that game looks amazing. It's like Marble Maddness on crack and speed.

Anyone know how to get a good pic of a screen without glare or the blur of no flash?

Take it at an angle, and the light from the flash won't bounce back in the direction of the camera. Also watch to make sure no major light sources are bouncing off the screen towards the camera.
