Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.  If you like the StarCraft idea why go with the source they ripped off?

So are you are looking for sci-fi/fantasy?  LotR: Battle for Middle-earth is okay but it doesn't appeal to everyone.  Otherwise, Rise of Nations is great and Command & Conquer: Generals (with expansion) is a fun diversion.

Stay FAR away from BFME. I thought it was just terrible. I really cannot recommend Warhammer Dawn of War enough. Its fantastic.

I get the feeling you might also like ground control 2, so give it a shot.

Hmm, what else in that vein-thats tough because its futuristic sci fi type RTS-you know what a great underrated RTS was in this vein?

Emperor Battle for Dune. Im serious. It was really really good, give it a try, its very hard to find but probably cheap.

Also look into the classic Red Alert 2 (which still wont install for me) or CC:Generals, a suprisingly fun game.
