I've been looking for some games that can be completed in 30-60 minutes. I prefer strategy and RPGs, and turn-based over real-time. I've found a lot of "puzzle" games but they are generally a little too abstract for me to enjoy.

Any ideas?

When I saw the subject, I was going to suggest Max Payne. But even MP is longer than 30 minutes.

I'll spend more time than that creating my toon in Oblivion.

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space.
Nethack.  (chances are you'll bite it before 30-60 minutes are up)
Astral Masters.

And, uh, that's about it for TBS/RPG.

Let me ask, why do you have to *complete* the game in 30-60 minutes?  I mean, that's what the save function is for...

RTS titles - you can beat a mission in about 30-60 minutes.  Not the whole game, but each mission, sure.

You could probably look into some Sudoku web games.  There are a lot of them out there, and most you can get done within that time.  I know it might be a "puzzle" game, but I think it fits the bill.

Moonbase Commander is a great TBS that you can play a game of in 20-30 minutes.

I've got so many games that take hours and hours to play, I though it would be a nice change of pace to have some games that AREN'T so epic in scope .. something where you could feel a sense of accomplishment in a short time period. Sometimes I don't have hours of contiguous time to spend on games.

SAIS looks familiar .. maybe I've played the demo before. I'll have to check it out (again). Astral Masters also looks interesing.

I never cared for NetHack. There is just way too much stuff you have to "know" to be successful, and it seems the only way to truly learn the game is to research it outside the game. Otherwise obscure goofy things happen and (as you said), you die.

Thanks for the suggestions.

In nethack, you die even if you DO know those obscure things.  I kind of hate it; I like my games more winnable.

Have you tried Oasis?  It's a combination puzzle/strategy game that plays very fast.  The demo will give you a good feel.

I second Oasis.  Fantastic, addictive, strategy game and each scenario takes 30-60 minutes.

If you're looking for some really good (and absolutely free) shooters, go visit: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/index_e.html

Basically, nothing fantastic graphically, but tons of shooter action. I highly recommend Mu-cade, as well as pretty much all the other downloads on the page. Pardon the Engrish though, but for all the fun that's there, I'm not complaining.
