Got my code yesterday. Haven't had a chance to browse the games yet though.
On a semi-related question, is Fallout 2 anything like what Fallout 3 is going to be? I am interested in Fall3 because of it's Real-time/FPS style and I am not usually into RPG games.

Fallout 2 is a turn-based isometric RPG, and doesn't share any of the real-time FPS properties of its sequel. It's a major classic though, and it'll wet your appetite for Fallout 3, so I suggest you give it a shot. You'll thank me later.

well, on the list of games available and coming soon I'm looking at buying 9 games already. Is there an NDA for this 'beta'? I didn't see one.

I think I played a demo of that. Was very fun but at the time I was waiting on it to hit the bargain bin then before it did it just went away.

Hmm... looks like their XP/Vista fixes aren't quite as robust as one would hope. As I look over the message board posts, it seems that some games - while running on modern OSes - are having issues with modern graphic card drivers. MDK, for example, exhibits the same lack of texture dithering that the version on GameTap does. Granted, it only affects people with more recent video cards (Nvidia 8/9 series, for example), but that issue is going to get more common as these DX10 parts continue to be installed.

On a releated note my local Goodwills and Salvation Army Thrift stores sell older computers for around $50. Things like 600mhz, 1 gig ram, 3dfx or 5200 cards and such. Monitor included.

Got my code today, hoorah. But the pickings are a little slim right now. Definitely going to keep my eye on it. I'd get Fallout 1 and 2, but I got them in a jewel case a couple years ago for $10. Fallout has been running fine on my new Vista 64bit laptop.

I'm considering Fallout 1/2 but I'm not sure. I've never played either of them and I'm not sure what I would think. Does Hostile Waters support a gamepad?

Just think - sites like these could bring the joystick industry back from the grave. Short of the rare release of a flight-sim, what else truly need a joystick to play properly? Everything is migrating to mouse support it seems.

Got my code, and I'm thinking about doing Fallout: Tactics and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Played both of them ages ago, but never could get Giants to run very well on my old rigs. Would love to play the later levels at more than a 3 FPS slideshow.

Yeah I'm eyeing Fallout: Tactics as well. It's a shame they don't have more games on offer, hopefully the catalogue will be bigger when it's fully live.

I remember getting extremely frustrated with it back in the day, but I tend to be a bit more forgiving when games are $5 instead of $50. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah, I'm eyeing up Giants as well. I had heard so many good things about it, but I had a GeForce 2 MX (!) and could never get it to run right. This whole idea intrigues me. I hope this works well so it can show people that this idea CAN catch on.

i'd like to say freespace 2 is awesome. i can't believe i missed this all those years ago. so far it seems like the production value is equal to what you expect now. the VA is a bit sketchy in emotion but very good over all.
there's one thing i have noticed. i'm not sure what the cause of this is, but the videos tend to skip or hang for a sec or 2. anyone else notice this too? the game itself runs very well. also GOG forums have links to mod. snagged the fo2 resolution one, makes look a bit better.

Not sure why they're selling Freespace 2, since the entire game is now open-source and available for free (along with a ton of mods for it).

is it the source code that's free, or is the the entire game? I ask because I can't seem to find any sites that have the actual game, just source code and mods.

There's some reason as to why GoG is allowed to sell the game. It's open-source, but it's not fully open or something like that. In short, they're allowed to sell it legally.

I'd be really curious to hear that reason, as I have Freespace 2, the campaign for Freespace 1 and it's expansion, plus numerous mods all downloaded from the site I linked. As far as I know there is nothing in Freespace 2 that is not available via open-source.

Giants question: can you save whenever you want or was it only between levels? I seem to remember it being only between levels back when I played it all those years ago.

I was having the same problem last night, and have not tried to log on today I'm getting the same thing. I sent an email in to them asking for assistance. It was odd because I got my email on 9/11 and logged in fine when I saw it at 7pm. Just kinda checked things out and logged off. Then I went back at around 10pm intending to purchase a game and got the invalid login message. I've tried off an on since the 11th and still get the invalid login. We'll see what they say. Hopefully will be able to log in before the "Buy One Get One Free" deal ends.

Yeah, it's let me create an account and I specified my country as UK. I haven't tried to buy anything yet but I don't see why there'd be a problem.

Being the doofus that I am, I decided to create a new account the night mine didn't work. The new account worked just fine, but I'm sure I negated my "Buy 1 Get 1" in the process.

Yeah, I still can't log in under my original account to get the 2-for-1. I fired off an email at 11:30 last night and got a reply at 2:39 in the morning. That's fairly impressive, I thought. However, the information asked me to log in with my access code by going to the beta page. That's what I'd actually been trying to do, but I can't access the beta page (it kicks me into the main page), and I can't log in using the access code from the main page. I think some of the confusion stems from the access code (that they give you) being different from an account password (that you set up when you create an account). I don't think you can log in to your account with the access code. Then again, I might have this all mixed up. The deal is over now, though, so I guess I missed it.
