this is going to be a great deal, especially at that price.  I can't wait for this one to come out- I played a bit of the original on the C64 but never got to play the others.

I wonder if they'll get 7,8 and 9 at a later point...

Actually, this is not just that one game but all six in a Limited Edition collection:

Quote
Pack includes first six games from Might and Magic series: "Might and Magic: Book 1"; "Might and Magic 2: Gates to Another World"; "Might and Magic 3: Isles of Terra"; "Might and Magic 4&5: World of Xeen"; bonus adventure "Sword of Xeen" and "Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven".

Excellent.  The GOG.com catalog continues to get better and grab more and more true classics.  As I thin out my gaming closet, I am going to start re-buying some of the games I own via GOG so I can rid myself of the CDs and support the GOG model.

Holy crap. M&M VI is one of my most played games ever. I put in obscene hours with it back in the day. I may have to get this just for sentimental value. And it does say it works in Vista 64-bit! (which like Zark said, should mean it works in Win7)

Aren't 1-6 DOS titles anyway? Maybe not 6, but the older ones were I thought. DOSBox works great in W7 (or so I thought).

AFAIK, all GOG.com games run in Vista. Most of these will use DosBox, with the possible exception of 6. And DosBox works great in Vista!

Yeah, I loved MM6, it was the first RPG games I ever played and opened the door to me for many great RPGs(and some not so good ones) since.

Interesting to read these thread!

I absolutely loved 3 through 5... some of the best RPGs of that era.  I didn't particularly like 6.

I spent hours with World of Xeen.  Just loved it.  I enjoyed the others, too, to a degree.

Looking at the screenshots now, though, is like watching an old kinescope after seeing a blu ray in 1080p.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this one soon. I have VI - IX, but I really want to get I - V.

Did anyone else grab this yet? I'm curious if the earlier games in this package run natively in Vista (like the redone King's Quests) or does it really require DosBox?

They run via DOSBox.  It installs DOSBox when you install the game.  The whole thing works flawlessly with no configuring under Windows 7 so I'm guessing it'd work fine in Vista as well.

I have both the regular box M&M 6 and the collectors edition. Ive never gotten far in it though. Ive tried many times. It seems a very difficult game. I have the same trouble with Wizardry 8.

Ah, MM6. I own the hologram CDs for that game, as well as a cover poster (it's huge!) of the box art that I won for sending in my warranty card right off the bat. Talk about bringing back memories. biggrin

I've got it. Now, I don't know where to start. I've played VI all the way through a couple of times and loved every minute of it (once on release and once about a year back - it held up surprisingly well), so I picked this up to be able to play the earlier games.

I'm tempted to jump right into Xeen, but I'm wondering if I should start with the Isles of Terra. I'd love to start at Book 1 and work my way through, but so much gaming, so little time. frown

If I were you I'd skip MM1 & 2 and go right to 3.  It holds up well compared to the first two and is a nice lead-in to the Xeen games.

Grabbed this set today. Anyone know how to force this to play in a window? M&M 3 in fullscreen is so pixelated I can barely make out what the icons are.

That worked for M&M 3, but it's a really small window and can't be resized. It didn't work for M&M 6 though.

Anyone else notice that the "Coming Soon" section on GoG has been shrinking lately, and has been empty for the past few weeks?  I wouldn't think they'd have a problem getting developers to sign on, so I'm not sure what's going on with this.

even though it's sometimes empty they'll still have surprise releases.  it's fun to check the site and see something you didn't expect pop up.

I'm kinda weird, but as for me, graphics aren't usually a barrier for me in replaying old games. The interface is what makes it or breaks it for me. I've started into Might and Magic 6 and, seriously, I find myself completely loving it. I actually think the graphics still have a lot of charm and even impress me in some ways. nod

I don't think I have played any of the M&M games to completion, but I have tinkered with many of them. #6 I played the most. I got pretty far in that before just running out of steam. I played 7 a good bit, but then I actually got physically stuck somewhere (maybe in a Dwarf city or something?)... I think I literally got into a section and couldn't get out, but I don't remember the details now. I skipped 8 and bought #9, but it just rubbed me the wrong way and I never played it much. I *think* I at least installed 4&5 once (didn't those 2 combine or something?). I remember when I was in high school and the first game came out and the graphics seemed mind blowing at the time. I've always felt like I missed out a little by not delving into M&M more, but these days I think its insane difficulty would be a turn off (early games). Aren't the old ones the type you have to map out on graph paper?

I can still play an old game and find the graphics charming.  I was just surprised that Xeen doesn't compare to my memories at all.  I supposed if I could get it to play in a window, it wouldn't be an issue really.

A bad interface (or even one that's too outdated) can ruin a game, though, it's true.

alt-enter won't switch Xeen from full screen to a window?  I thought those were still dos based.

I haven't tried.  I was talking about the screenshots, originally, then speculating about the look in a window in the second post.  Sorry if that was confunsing.
