Well, there were no red orbs coming out of the killed creatures, so who knows if it is a real level or anything, but it definitely gives the impression of being rendered with the game engine.

The Cover Story for Game Informer this month is GOWIII. Can't wait to read up on it.

Now I really must finish GOWII.

I'm assuming that's in-engine running at real-time.  It's not pretty enough to be pre-rendered CG, but there aren't many gameplay tropes like above mentioned red orbs.  But, you can tell they're using tweeaked in-game animations for the chain swords.

Altogether it looks bad ass.

MUCH better than that teaser they released in December.  Gives a good idea that it retains that epic scope that makes GoW series so amazing.

Makes me feel like doing my annual replay of GoW 1 and/or GoW2.

I just started a replay of 1 and 2. I honestly don't remember a damned thing about these games, but I'm really enjoying them a lot more this time around. It's amazing how well they hold up visually when upscaled by the PS3. The texture maps on walls are really about the only thing that give it away as a last gen game.

I had GoW 3 in my "maybe" checkbox but after replaying and seeing this trailer I'm excited for it.

Make them playable even on PS3's that aren't BC. That sounds like a really smart idea....which means Sony probably won't do it.

They say 720p, so it should be pretty noticeable, though I guess that doesn't necessarily touch the modeling or anything.

If all they do is upscale to 720p then it won't be that much difference.  So we'll have to see.

Both would benefit enormously- ico so that it's no longer field interlaced and SotC could finally fix it's framerate.

Will the GOW 1&2 re-release be recoded to work on PS3s without backward compatibility?  Or will there be some form of emulation on the disk?

i think last guardian would benefit enormously, as well (as i think gow 3 will, also). with this news, i think the chances have gone from possible to probable smile ...

To be honest, it actually requries a decent effort to get the games working flawlessly at 720p 60fps on the PS3.  You basically have to have a perfect emulator (which the PS3 can't do) or get all the code and art assets, then recompile them for the PS3.

While $40 is pushing it for me, I would actually pay for an updated game.  Heck, I'd pay for certain other games to be updated in this way.  Ico, Colossus, etc... come to mind.

I never played either game, so this is a certain buy for me. A friend of mine has been insisting that I try the GoW series for a while, so this is my chance.

I was at FanEXPO this weekend in Toronto and was over at the Sony booth watching 2 guys play the game. This will be a system seller in my mind. I always said that I will get the PS3 once GoW3 comes out - I have no desire to play anything on the platform other than that  drool

Mind you - I purchased my PS2 slim for GoW #1.

The game looked very nice - great boss battles and animations.

I guess I need more info on this one.  I have the 60G PS3 and so I have BC and can play these games.  If this is just them with built-in emulation, there is no point.  Although, I guess my copies didn't run in 720p, so they must be doing something to them.

Yeah it's the difference between being natively rendered in 720p or upscaled.  Plus a locked frame rate should eliminate the tearing which can be rather extreme in both games.

If you search you can find some images of God of War 1&2 being run at higher resolutions with AA through PC emulators and that might give you an idea of the kind of visual difference you might see.
