Finally finally finally playing through this game and it is stupendous to behold. I'm playing through on God mode and the challenge is just about right.  I'm to the point where you fight the barbarian and have just gotten the weapon that that battle results in you getting.

After playing GOW and Chains of Olympus, and now this masterpiece, this series might be my favorite of all time. It's just so ridiculously good.

I started this a few months ago but then got caught up in a number of Xbox 360 games.  I really need to load this one up again as it was fun up until I was distracted new releases.

Absolutely agree.  This IS my favorite series.  Period.  Cannot wait for next-gen version.  Might, just might, be my first stay-home-from-work game.

Temporarily bringing this thread back from the dead as I finished this game this weekend. Final impressions:

1. The game was great, but about 2 hours too long. I really enjoy the GoW gameplay, but with the exception of a few puzzle bits, it's a fairly non-stop action game, and that can start to feel a little repetitive after 10 hours or so. I think 10-12 hours is good for a game of this type, and I think I wound up over 14 hours. I finally took up the offer to go to easy mode during the final boss fight because I was ready to be done.

2. Boss fights in normal seemed out of balance at times - they were actually too easy. Now, as the resident boss-battle hater, I didn't have a huge problem with this, but it seemed odd. In the first GoW, I remember repeating the boss battles many times. In this one, I don't think I ever fought a boss more than twice (with the exception of the final one). In a lot of cases, the game seemed to offer you many chances to recover health during the battle, and the bosses didn't do much damage. I had a lot more trouble with the instances where you get walled in and have to fight a bunch of enemies to proceed (such as the aforementioned "ramp" battle).

3. Thanks to the developers for leaving out the spinning blades.

Just finished this tonight and it was absolutely amazing as expected.  I've now played through all 3 games out in this series and it's hands down my favorite series going right now.  I can't wait for GOW3.

With that said, the button sequence at the very end was so friggen brutal, I almost snapped my controller in half.

If my math is correct, I'm a little more than 1/3 of the way through this game and it's odd that I've clearly forgotten how much I love this series.

The game play is perfect.  Looking forward to finishing it in the coming days and can't wait to get to III.

That Gorgon fight IS good.  I suspect that I will be replaying these games again soon.  I'm already playing 3 again and have started another CoO playthrough as well.

Got through the temple of the...threadweaver woman monster octopus thing.

That one series of battles to get into her lair was one of the top two or three hardest moments in the entire series, IMO.  It took me a while to get through the first three waves without using up my magic and then just unloading on the 4 gorgons and 4 shriekers.

During the 'puzzles' of killing the weaver I kept wondering 'why would she allow the means for her to be killed to be built into her room?'.  I thought it was kind of poor design and I would have liked to see a more improv type way for Kratos to kill her.

Thus far I've gone the distance playing on God mode, but as I want to finish this game- and it just seems to keep going- I've gone ahead and changed to easy.  I just want to be finished.

The cutscene where you

Spoiler for Hiden:
kill athena

was pretty spectacular.  I had hoped the game was over at that point.  Onward I go though.

Fantastic game.

You're like 5 minutes from being done.  Honestly if you got through the Ramp of Death on Hard then nothing else should have given you too much trouble.  That ramp is the hardest part of the game.

Doh!  Well I guess it doesn't matter since it's a PS2 game anyway Tongue

Wonder if I should try God mode in III right out of the gate. It seems to be the best level of combat.

Combat in 3 is the easiest of all of them.  The hard mode you can access from the start is challenging, but not stupid hard.
