I've been consuming home-made game footage videos at an unhealthy rate, and am now convinced this very well may be the greatest video game ever made. I'm growing physically ill in anticipation.

My hype level is to the point that if I was in the store, and there was one copy left, and a little handicapped kid in a wheelchair with terminal cancer grabbed that last copy with tears in his eyes because he knew it was the last video game he'd ever play....I would bash his skull in with a tire iron, grab it, and yell, "Sucks to be you, bitch!" as I was running wildly out of the store.

Jack Thomspon was right!!!!

Then that would turn into a Seinfeld episode.

Actually, this is quite an interesting idea along the lines of a Hardy Boys story I once read as a kid called "Deathgame" (which has also since been incorporated into a number of films and I think also a Dirk Pitt story as well).  It's also the idea behind the film "The Running Man".  The premise is that a series of prisoners are released and then hunted down and killed.

The Most Dangerous Game cries at your abortion of knowledge.

I wasn't suggesting that the Hardy Boys story was the source of the hunter/hunted storyline, just that it was the first story of its kind I read as a kid and it has stuck with me.  I actually own The Most Dangerous Game, but just didn't remember it.  But after reading the wikipedia entry I remember the character names, the storyline, etc.  Either way, my point was that when I started thinking about CeeKay's Sony Defense Force hunting game, The Hardy Boys: Deathgame immediately came to mind.  I meant to say that the hunter/hunted storyline was incorporated into many books and films, not necessarily the Hardy Boys story specifically.

Either way I've read The Most Dangerous Game.  I just didn't remember.

Regardless, what difference does it make.

I'm hoping more for a Deathgame sort of feel.  Being thrust into a world with no weapons and a group of pissed-off hunters on your tail.  You're faced with a need to think fast, find a weapon, and stay alive.  If you don't find a weapon in time and the hunters begin tracking you then there is an even higher sense of urgency.  There should be a sense of fear and apprehension.  But with quick thinking and a bit of guts you could steal a car from the hunter's headquarters and run one down.  Now you have a machine gun.  Ho-Ho-Ho.

Did anyone watch Lost in Space?

I remember a cool episode where the dad is hunted in a "Most Dangerous Game" fashion by some kooky alien shooting circular-saw-bladey-things at him.

i've never played any of the GTA games.

Ditto. But I've drunk the kool aid and plan to go all in into this game.

Please do not post a new thread when the game comes out complaining about the content, on how excessive the language is, or the drug use, or the ability to go to strip clubs, or the violence.  And how we are all sinners for playing this.

I think some of us are getting a wee bit too hyped for the game. If you didn't think GTA3 was the best game ever, I don't see why you would think GTA4 will be. It's basically the same game but with lots of improvements and a multiplayer mode. I definitely believe it's going to be one of the best games of this console generation but I'm not expecting anything miles ahead of what GTA3 did all those years back.

I'm just hoping pete gets so worked up that he ends up so disappointed that he breaks down and cries during an MP session.

Then I might be able to, while he's in a fetal position sobbing like a small child, actually get a kill on him.

It hails back to the U2K days, where he'd say something stupid and everyone would proceed to respond with variations of the ORLY? owl pictures on OO.  It's since been banned by the Geneva Convention (but so has U2K).

Keep in mind that if we play drunken games, Drunk PeteRock + Drunk In-Game Character = Exponential Advantage as the two cancel each other out.  The odds are more in favor of an endless drunken stream of profanities followed by some incomprehensible ramblings and a moment of silence when I briefly lose consciousness.  And then yet another Purge kill.  You might actually have a chance if you weren't already curled into the fetal position and sobbing yourself.

Depends on whether multiplayer and exclusive downloadable content are more important than using a system that isn't likely to go tits up if you look at it sideways.

It's quite possible. I always get new movies from netflix on release tuesday and this is the sort of game the stores will all be getting shipments in early so they have it on release day.

I walked by the line for a San Andreas midnight launch and it looked like a scene right out of the game was about to unfold.  I would have to seriously consider buying some kind of kevlar vest if I was planning to go

Besides, it would only be worth it if I had Tuesday off of work, so no midnight launch for me.  I may, however, be at risk of coming down with the flu or something right after I pick the game up at lunch.

This shit is starting to sound very prejudice to me. There is no need to be getting stereo typical about the game just because of the setting and the nature of the game. All of a sudden, "oh I need a bullet proof vest" oh "its not my crowd" you people are sickening.
