Says the man who started a new HL2 thread I think it's pretty cool. It's been a couple of years since we were this excited about a new game.

now, the real test will be whether or not 2 years down the road there's a run on HL2 threads for mods like morrowing experiences quite a bit.

Man i hope so. Mods would rock. I'd love to see a Natural Seletion or Day of Defeat redo in this engine.

DoD: Source is probably goign to be released soon, and I'm pretty sure I read the NS guys are working on a new release for the new engine. I haven't played many competitive games online in the last couple years, but DoD: Source might just get me back into it. s

I'm assuming the mod scene will go to town on HL2 and it will have a long shelf life as its predecessor did...

This is no where close to the amount of Morrowind threads back in the day.

Wasn't the whole front page of GBT exclusively MW threads at one time? That was nuts.
It was a good game, but c'mon!

i actually rather enjoyed having all of those morrowind threads because, even though i had the game, i couldn't possibly play it on the computer i had at the time. it sure was fun living vicariously through you guys.
strangely, now that i have an up to date computer and half-life 2, i still find myself spending more time reading threads about it than playing the game. case in point, i've had hl2 since about 2:15am cst november 16th and i've just now gotten to water hazard.
i think it's safe to say that i have a serious problem with priorities.

uh, you clearly don't remember how bad it was. At it's peak, it was 2 pages full of MW threads. This is tame compared to that mess over a terrible terrible game

This is tame compared to that mess over a terrible terrible game This is nothing compared to the hype frenzy with Morrowind that engulfed Gone Gold back when it was released. There were 2 solid pages of nothing but Morrwind topics...but it was all well deserved! I mean, come on...it's one of the greatest games of all time!

Hope you bought the Steam version of HL2. Unfortunately, its the only way to get DoD as Activision owns the rights.
Even retail copies of HL2 are "steam versions." All the retail CD/DVDs are doing is installing the content and steam wrapper just like if you downloaded it through steam. Retail customers will have no trouble buying DoD Source through Steam. What is different is that Valve offered a specific Steam package that lets you get DoD Source for free when it was released.
