Somebody help me out here... what is it about this game that has people excited?  I watched the MS E3 video and they showed the game being played and it looked okay but nothing to knock my socks off.  It's a 3rd person shooter with great graphics and... what?  I guess I'm not seeing what sets this apart from pretty much every other shooter out there.

Maybe I've just played too many shooters.

I just watched the long presentation that CliffyB did for it and while it does look very cool two negatives stood out:

1) I think the ramming yourself into cover is one of the silliest things I've ever seen.  It would be awesome if it was momentum based (ie only occurs if you're scrambling full speed ahead) but watching the hero casually walk up to  within a foot of cover and then physically ram himself into it just looked strangely masochistic and absurd.

2) Could the hero be anymore generic?  Can't we do a bit better than "Let's kick some ass" ?

Otherwise looks pretty amazing from a technical standpoint though I hope there is a lot more diverse gameplay than what the first level showed with looked like something that would get old after a couple of hours.
