So we've started a poll on Facebook:

What upcoming games are you looking forward to the most?

I know there are a few threads talking about this very thing already, but I think the results of a poll like this will be interesting to talk about in our next podcast. Multiple answers are encouraged!

I don't use facebook - Can't you poll the frontpage or something instead?

Or even better - make a link to a poll here on the forums. They could use some fresh blood!!

Oh I use Facebook daily. I just don't want to use it to drag my friends or acquaintances into my activities on the Internet. It's not any of their business, whereas Facebook makes all of this transparent.

Any like you make or poll you vote in, you can just remove that post and it will not show up on anyone's news feed, without removing your like or poll result.

Facebook = 2012's answer to myspace - I think it's going to pass into less-than-important status at some point in the future.

I use it for a way to get ahold of people that I rarely speak to, which by that very virtue means I use it very infrequently.

Ok, so there are a number of reasons why I chose Facebook's poll system for this:
1. We are promoting our Facebook and Twitter feeds much stronger. Facebook polls are actually a good way for facebook members to share with their friends our Facebook page, which has links to all of our front page posts leading to our site. We've already added a few more FB friends this way and hopefully they are checking the site out.
2. Installing, testing, and implementing a poll plugin for the main site would have taken a lot longer. FB poll took 10 minutes.
3. I didn't make a poll in the forum because I'm trying to coax some of you guys into interacting outside of the forum as well- our FB account, our twitter acct, our main site with all the news, review, videos, screenshots, etc.

The bottom line is- yes, we do want to know what everybody is interested in during the fall gaming deluge to help us with a future podcast, but we're trying to build up our traffic and reach more people. Social media is a great way to do it. You can, of course, decline to interact with any aspect of GT outside of this forum, but that is your prerogative.

Fair enough Mr Fool. I have no idea how big a part of a site social media is and indeed how many of your audience are using it. My comments were actually more geared towards that the forums seems to be drying up numberswise and if a way existed to pull outsiders in, it could be fun.

As someone mentioned, the 8 people here would probably not be an interesting poll anyways, which was why the frontpage poll leading to a discussion here could perhaps be of interest.

Anyways, best of luck with the social media thingies!

We had some site indexing issues that I have ironed out- overall traffic is trending up again. I'm pretty much using every tool in the shed to try to attract new readers into the site, and the poll is an experiment towards that goal

But Facebook sometime screw up and "accidentally" reveal information to those that you want to keep private. smile

One small example:

I always set my chat status to offline so that no one can keep track on when I use Facebook, but Facebook's undocumented feature foiled that since people on my friend list see I'm online for a bit before it set my chat status to offline.

I refuse to have anything to do with facebook, myspace, cancer, and syphilis. If you care about forumers, put the poll here and link it from your facebook thing. I assume you can put links on facebook?

If they linked to it here from Facebook, A) non-forumers wouldn't be able to vote in the poll, and B) they wouldn't get the extra exposure from the poll appearing on the feeds of poll-takers.

I totally agree. It is relevant to today's web audience, and I fully support GT's use of Facebook - I just don't personally use it, and I've seen a lot of apathy from people I know both locally and abroad.

Also AOL was at one point in a similar position (2002 had 26million subscribers). So was Yahoo. The sheen fades, and peoples interest turns to new-and-exciting. Unlike Google, FB is banned by many workplaces so it also has some added restrictions.

I don't have numbers but I bet there's a direct correlation between internet users of then and now.

Regardless, it's proof that people are sheep and homo-sapiens are doomed.

You also have to take into account that you had to pay AOL in dollars while you pay facebook with your soul. Even poor people have souls.

FB is important now, and GT needs a boost. If this works, good for GT. thumbsup
