So I finally broke down and subscribed to Gametap . . . and I'm a bit overwhelmed.  Rather than sift through all the choices, I thought I'd take the easy way out and get someone else's opinions.  So, what are your favorites on Gametap?  In particular, what are the "hidden gems" that one might have to search for a while before finding on his own?  Thanks!

I just recently cancelled my Gametap subscription due to not using it for a few months, but Psychonauts was a good game, and Project Eden had possibilities.  Both are under the Windows games section.

Overlord is a must if you haven't played that yet. Hopefully they worked some of the kinks out of it. There was a period there where I had to uninstall and reinstall the game to get past certain parts of the game.

I would put Uplink: Hacker Elite and Space Colony on your list of games to check out too. Those two were surprises for me on how fun they were.

But yeah, the amount of choices are overwhelming.

If they would get System Shock 1 & 2 up on Gametap I would die a happy man.

I would re-sub in a second.  I see they just got Civ 4 up too.

The best games I've played on gametap are by far the console and arcade classics. The best so far were:

Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)
Streets of Rage 2 & 3 (Genesis)
all of the Metal Slug series (NeoGeo)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Arcade classics)
Phantasy Star 4 (Genesis)
Beyond Oasis (Genesis)
Shinobi 3 (Genesis)
The King of Dragons (Arcade classics)
Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast)
Castlevania Bloodlines (Genesis)
Shining Force (Genesis)

Some good PC games I've played:

Tomb Raider Legends and Anniversary.
Psychonoauts
Project Eden
Kohan II
Legacy of Kain Defiance
all of the Sam & Max series
Overlord
Dark Reign 2

I should mention that I'm quite limitted on what PC games I can play since my entertainment PC is only connected to my HDTV. All that I've listed will run in widescreen resolutions.

Where was Gametap when I was single and minus kids?  I would have been all over this service back in 1999.

Looks like the licensing has expired for 70+ games and will be removed from the service on the 11th... mostly edutainment, plus some Interplay and EA titles.

Here's a list someone's putting together on the ones being removed.  I never did get around to playing the Descent/Freespace games, and now it may be awhile before I do.

I'm quite sure I have a number of the original Decent/Freespace games in my CDROM library. If your really want to play them I can lend them to you. All you need to do is pay the shipping. smile
