I think there was a thread on this somewhere, but I can't find it so I'm starting a new one.

Right now- and it has been for months now- that game for me is Gears of War.

Friday Night I was gonna hook up with Ike to do some coop even though all I really wanted to play was Battlestations: Midway.  Time was TBD as he was expecting to be out with friends.

To kill time until he arrived, I played some MP.  It went from where's Ike to I hope he doesn't show (he didn't  thumbsdown thumbsup) so I can keep playing.

Two hours later I took a 45 minute Battlestations:Midway break and then played Gears for 3 more hours until 4 AM.

Crikey.

Dead Rising will also fall into this category. I've played through 3 or so full times, but I want to go back and do it again.

Guitar Hero tends to remain close to the current crop of consoles.

Gears had that effect for me, as well, though I cooled for a bit and just finished the single player two nights ago.  I was hooked for a long time.  Especially on MP, and I'm not usually much of an MP guy.

The combination of Crackdown and the Achievements Reward Challenge (got my 1500 points last night, BTW) had me plow through that game like butter.  I stopped for a bit before the last few baddies, and I'm finding it a little hard to get into again, but not much.  It's just a blast to play.

There's a tendency for me to stop playing a game if I feel like I'm dedicating too much time to it or if I feel like I'm going to finish it.  Frankly, that's ridiculous, but it's a habit I can't shake.  It doesn't help if a new game comes out.

The only game that kept drawing me back straight through to completion was Oblivion.  Even KOTOR, which I also plowed through, got some downtime, but any time I tried something new during Oblivion, it quickly got sent to the back burner.  It helped that not a lot was coming out for the 360 at the time, but still.

It's gotta be Guild Wars for me.

I have the game for well over a year..played for a month or two, shelved it when something else caught my attention, and didn't look at it again until a month or two ago.

Now I can't stop.  It's a funny game where you reach the level cap, and then the game takes off.  The missions are challenging.  There is reliance on group dynamics, but with heroes, you don't necessarily need to have a group of idiots with you, and there's enough eye candy to keep my happy.  Each class really plays and feels different, and even within each class, there are different ways to go about your business.  Add to that the ability to respec at any time (in a town, anyway), fast travel between cities and continents, and very little downtime, and you have a game that I can't stop playing.

Same for me.. But I have been limiting my time on my PS2 so when I go to buy Guitar Hero II on my 360 my wife won't say "Can't you already play this on your PS2" smile

Lately it's been Supreme Commander single player campaign.  I consider it to be a pretty mediocre game.  It runs like dogshit on my system.  The plots of the 2 campaigns I've played are ho-hum.  The missions are long, tedious and repetitive.  The lack of an autosave feature means that I have to play with a watch timer that goes off every 15 minutes.  There are scripting errors.  The lack of polish is frankly appalling.  Yet I can't stop playing, and look forward to playing when I get home.

Mafia or Jagged Alliance 2 from a can't stop replaying standpoint.

Nothing is really keeping me going currently. Gothic 3 would be if it would stop running out of memory. Some others might if I were not married with a 10 month old son, two dogs, a cat and a full time job.

Lots of the original games like Astropop or Feeding Frenzy are damn addicting. I keep going back to them all the time.

I finally got my hands on this via trade.  I poke at it and move forward a little bit each weekend.  Usually one or two battles and then I'm done.  I should finish it around the time the Playstation 4 ships.

The Neverwinter Nights series gets in the way of my play time with other games more than any other title. I played the 1st game and it's 2 expansions more or less nonstop over the course of many weeks.  I'm finding it difficult to break off from NWN2 to play other games as well. God help me if Obsidion releases an expansion for NWN2 anytime soon.

I spent a couple of hours playing Hexic just this past weekend and it still feels like a new game to me (many of the XBLA titles still have achievements left for me to unlock... accept for Bejewled 2. Those achievements can get bent).

I'm not playing it currently, but I've reliably played Diablo 2 off and on (mostly on) for over five years now, so it's my de facto title. icon_wink

Otherwise, currently, I'd point at Guitar Hero 1 & 2 (I pop it in and go at it once or twice a week and have done so for the last eight or nine months).

Oblivion...i've logged over a hundred hours but keep coming back.  even though i'll get distracted for a while by some shiny new release, i always find myself picking up Oblivion again and getting sucked into that world.  i had plans to spend all my gaming time playing GRAW2 this past weekend, but i saw a friend online playing Oblivion and got the urge to pop it in for a little while...wound up spending most of yesterday playing it...

For years it was Worms.

Metal Gear Solid series.  I've played them all through 3 or more times and I play  at least one if not more of them through every single year since 2001.

Also, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time- played it at least three times and know I will still come back to it in the future.

World of Warcraft.

70 days 12 hours logged for me.

And that's in hours played, not that I logged in once a day for 70 days.

I suspect I'll keep replaying Deus Ex every year or two from here on out.  Same with Thief 1/2 and their fan missions.

I think I misunderstood. In terms of sort of all-time games I can't stop playing there are a few:

Planescape: Torment
Freespace 1+2

Yup, I've returned to both of these more than once.
And damned if it isn't a complete pain every time to get Thief 1 running with 16 bit textures using that 3rd party patch. Wish there was an easier way of doing it or I could commit the procedure to memory.  retard

 eek

That would be 1692 hrs total.

I think the highest I ever got in time played on any MMO was 10 days logged total or 240 hrs...and that was the original Everquest. Back then I thought, wow I need to not play this game so much....guess I was a lightweight in the grand scheme of things though, huh? smile

NHL 07 has kept my interest since it came out.  I don't play ever day... except for the last week or two I guess I probably have...

R6, Midway, and PGR3 all held my attention for a long time...

Thats total would be considered lightweight by some MMO players. I wouldn't even want to guess at the hours some of the hardcore EQ players have racked up over the years.

As to he thread, the only titles I go back to again are multiplayer stuff like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and the Battlefield games.
