Gameplay is described as a mix of The Witcher and other pseudo-turn-based RPGs, with players choosing skills and directing traffic in the midst of real-time battle.

the article also mentions you'll play at least two characters, and the story is set around the books instead of following them.

Who the fuck is Cyanide?  They made a game called Horse Racing Manager woot!  Ok they also did BloodBowl which is a nice game (with a terrible UI) but can they make a good RPG or RTS?  The trailer for the RTS just looks awful.

The only rationale explanation (I can think of) is that they got the license before Game of Thrones made it mainstream via HBO.  Otherwise, someone like EA would've snatched it up.

I'm pretty tempted to leap at the RTS title. I'm a fan of Bloodbowl and the little information I have seen about the RTS make it look like Knights of Honor (a good thing IMHO).

Well BloodBowl is good because the turn based board game is good.  I don't think anyone thinks the realtime mode of BB is good.  So I am very skeptical but I guess I'll wait and see.

Don't go confusing engines with art design now! Both games portray a bleak quasi-realistic fantasy world. I believe the graphics look better in the screenshots above than they will in actual play. The camera angles look very deliberate, particularly because I can't imagine they'll be facing up much of the time, if at all.

I like the ability to interrupt combat. Although it looks to be differing from other games with similar systems, in that it only allows the action to be slowed down and not completely paused. I think that's a better idea and should make for a better challenge. I've been cautiously optimistic about this game, but it's looking more promising all the time.

May 15th.  I wonder if they're going to flinch and change dates at the last moment or if this will be like 2000 when Deus Ex and Diablo 2 came out practically on top of each other, and for me Deus Ex won out.

This almost feels like a stealth release.  It seems like they've decided not even to market the game.  I haven't seen any industry buzz, which is normally a bad sign.  The game comes out in 14 days and if it weren't for Ceekay digging up the ocassional update, I wouldn't even know about it.

for some reason Gamersgate has this up for $35.99, and if you have the IGN 15% off discount it's only $30.59. 

of course there is a catch- the Gamersgate version uses ActControl, which seems to be some variant of Starfarce.  I don't think the Steam version used it because Amazon has 2 different versions listed for sale:  ActControl or Steam.  I only mention it because I know some people want nothing to do with that kind of stuff.

played about a half hour so far and it definitely feels a bit rough.  random thoughts:

• lots of loading screens in the beginning, and they are very reminiscent of the first Witcher game.
• camera is too close to back of your character and there seems to be no way to zoom out.
• lip synch seems to be off, and there are noticeable pauses in the middle of conversations.
• graphics are mixed.  most look nice but then there's some awfulness, like your character's dog.
• combat is OK so far, only had one instance.  pause slows down combat so you can queue up to 3 attacks depending on your energy.  maybe it's just early in the game but it felt a bit plodding.
• Character creation:  you get to choose 3 different archtypes, then assign attribute points, then stance points (think skill tree-  the are active and passive stances), equipment points (modifiers for different weapons and armor types) and strengths/weaknesses.  for the last one you can choose up to 3 strengths, each of which has a certain point value, and then you must balance out the points with weaknesses.  some weaknesses are unavailable after choosing a certain strength so you're not cancelling out one with the other, but it is still possible to weaken one of your strengths if not paying attention.
