Any of you getting this?  If so are you going Xbox or PS2?  I'll be going the former.  I just realized today that we're really only a month and a half from this game dropping and us getting to see what EA has in store for Xbox Live.

I found last year's game to be better than its NFL counterparts (Madden and ESPN) and have always found myself playing NCAA more than the NFL games.

I'm getting it.  I bought the last three years on the PS2, but with Live support I don't see any reason to stick around.  I am used to the PS2 controls, but I was never that good to begin with!

Personally I can't wait for the game or the season to start!

Holy crap!  I was just thinking, "Damn, Devil is IN for everything!"

Is it just because it's an EA title?  Curious...   It's college football and it's the only game in town.

No, stiffler, not an EA thing (liked most of their stuff last year!)

I just hated NCAA last year. Bring on the name calling, but I thought it was awful.

Sorry!

Honestly, Devil, I agree in most respects.  I prefer the gameplay from NCAA 2003.  I never did get used to the way the camera zoomed out during passing plays.  If it was an option that would have been fine.

That's the most glaring problem I had with the game.  As long as they keep improving the create-a-team and scheduling options I will be happy.  Perhaps having taken a year off and changing consoles and controllers the changes won't bother me as much.

I am fired up for the latest title.  I am going to make myself love it, warts and all!

Ouch, Agt Fox! That stings!!

I didn't like the defense at all. Playing dime on every down pruduced some good results. Option teams were too powerful, etc...

I might be getting this.  I will most likely rent first, because EA football games can be tough for me to adapt to.

I will certainly at least try it though.

Oh, and it will be xbox for me, if at all.

From IGN's new preview:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/521/521410p1.html

Quote

Homefield Advantage does a great job of recreating the benefits of having a massive crowd behind you. When on defense, the home team player can try and bring the crowd into the game. Tapping the "Homefield Advantage" button repeatedly increases the pumpitude of the crowd. In a giant house known for rabid fans, like Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium, this can cause your opponent's controller to rumble frantically and the screen to shake like an epileptic bobblehead.

This goes beyond a visual and actually has an effect on a player's confidence (which I'll get into in #3) and can make audibles impossible. In fact, I gave an audible a shot when I brought the Wolverines to Wisconsin. My receiver heard the wrong route and wasn't there to catch the ball. He wasn't even close. Fortunately, neither were any Badgers. The effects of this are much less intense at say, the home of the Chattanooga Mocs, who's fans only get up on Free Viagra Day. In that scenario, the pump meter is tougher to fill and the effect is not nearly as severe.

I can't believe he would diss my school that way! How funny is that though, I never expected my beloved Mocs to be mentioned in a review of a football game. (truly a TN Vol fan, Mocs as well though)

Anyway, I can't wait for this years game.

Oh yeah, definitely be picking this one up (Xbox).  I do every year and they haven't let me down yet..., 'course that's only 2 years

The "camera zooming out" thing never bothered me in the least, for whatever reason. The AI needs some work, Option teams do seem a bit too powerful at times, but overall I really enjoyed '04. And I consider both '03 and '04 to be have been money well spent. I wore them both out  biggrin

Hey, I would agree that the NCAA Football series ain't perfect, but they're just so much damn fun to play that I tend to overlook the flaws. I'm sure if you corner me in, say..., October, I'll have a gripe or 2 about '05. But I'll still be playing it... I buy Madden and NCAA every year now and NCAA always gets more play. Usually a lot more.

Well, the defense should be better this year because NCAA is built and refined from last year's Madden engine.  Madden saw better defense last year, so I would not be surprised if we saw that this year in NCAA.

And I totally agree with you that the fun is what it is all about.  I probably spend more time playing NCAA in a given year than I do Madden or Sega's offering combined.

Rumors (since I don't have the mag yet, should be coming soon) are that EGM gave it a 9.0, 9.5, 9.0 in the latest EGM.  It also garnered the Game of the Month title.  I personally can't wait for this game...T-minus 23 days!

I've noticed in videos something I hope is also in Madden this year.  When you kick off and do your power/accuracy kickoff, right before the kicker kicks the ball the camera goes 180 to the receiving team.  This is a brilliant move because for years it has been once the receiver caught the ball the camera would switch behind him and you weren't able to see the holes to run through.  Now you will.

Although I am wondering how onside kicks are handled.  I would guess the camera would stay behind the kicking team, but who really knows.  There may be a video out there somewhere showing it.  Anyway, this is a major change I have seen in videos and I think it is a great one.  As I said, I hope Madden also implements this.

A little extra time to look downfield on kickoff returns would be greatly appreciated by this geezer-gamer.

I just read the Team Xbox Impressions.  The one that focuses mostly on what EA did with the XBLive features....

Wow!

If only I didn't absolutely hate the "Madden" Engine.  Because this game sounds quite awesome.

To all the NCAA fans out there, I am very happy for you.  Sounds like you are in for a treat.

Enjoy.

What is it about the Madden engine that you don't like?  Even though NCAA is built on last year's Madden engine, I always find it the more enjoyable game to play because they refined the engine from last year so much.

I think gameplay-wise, the Madden engine sucks monkey balls compared to ESPN's.

It isn't as if I haven't given the Madden engine a chance either.  On the day the Xbox was released, I purchased Halo, PGR & Madden.

On the day NCAA 2003 was released, I purchased it.

I have given both games plenty of time and patience and I still feel with all my might that the ESPN engine is absolutely superior in every single area.  I can't even stomach going from one engine to the other.

It's a shame too, because I really want a college football game (any word on another Sega one?).

Eco...was your first football experience with NFL 2Kx?  I could see where someone coming from that would not like the Madden mechanics.  I enjoy both games, but I personally find Madden the better controlling game.

As for College Football, I believe Sega is out of that game permanently.

No, pretty much it was like this.

8 bit:  Tecmo Bowl

16 bit:  Madden

32 bit:  Madden / Sony's football (forget the name atm)

Dreamcast:  2K (from here on 2K)

Xbox:  Madden at first, 2K as soon as it came out and never looked back.

My only concern is that EA is becoming more and more creative with the control scheme.  Pretty soon it is going to be like playing Ninja Gaiden, with combos and such.  It's confusing enough as it is, now they are adding even more crazy stuff to Madden, like the QB evade.  For some reason I always forget which shoulder button is lateral, which usually costs me at least one game per season.  You would think I would remember after playing for years and years...

So, are we going to have a 117-team league for this or what?  Devil, why don't you work on putting the ladder together.

Honestly, as excited about Live play as I am, I know I am going to be absolutely slaughtered online.

I wish I didn't have to wait 2 more weeks.

I have to return Spiderman 2 because of it being so crappy, and I tempted to exchange it for NCAA.  But I'm not big into college sports, and ESPN is close.  But I'm really tempted.  What to do, What to do
