This is probably coming out for PS4 with the way they keep retweeting the videos.

thanks.  I didn't see anything specifically labeled, and figured I'd let someone else go through the feed to find them.  Job well done! thumbsup

PC and PS4 as speculated, and it's a long ways off, 2015 release date.

so, the new web site and teaser looks interesting.  definitely will be keeping an eye on the PC version.  glad to see them going into a sci fi setting.  2015 is a ways off though, hopefully it is an early 2015 and not a late 2015 release.  hopefully they explain the name; it is kinda stupid on its own.

Not risking a preorder for $3 but looking good.  Really hoping it captures what made the original Amnesia great, no horror game since has really filled that niche for me.

I forfeited my $3 discount for the PC version when I discovered it's also on PS4. I'm going the big screen route for this experience!

More exciting than the positive review scores is what the reviews are saying about the game, it sounds like something much smarter than a typical horror game. I suppose we should have expected no less from the Amnesia team.

Put in about three or four hours in to this last few days. I put myself in a media blackout when this was announced so didn't really know anything about it going in - other than you wind up in an underwater base at some point.

It's not a home run to me so far but I am enjoying it. I like the setting quite a bit and trying to figure out what is going on. It's got a lot of atmosphere. However for me the execution is just missing that mark slightly.

Like most of these types of games there are audio logs/text but they're really very mundane. So when you're done listening or reading through things it seems like a bit of a waste. The voice acting isn't all that great either. Acceptable but seems to be lacking emotion in the delivery. Probably the biggest voice acting miss is the main character. Not due to the actor but because he's so accepting of his situation. Initially he's surprised, and there are a few voice cues that trigger in the first room. But then you get out of that first room and he's silent. I'd be questioning a lot of stuff I was witnessing. But nothing. The next time there is some audio he's kinda just accepting what he's seeing.

The puzzles so far haven't been too difficult - although I will embarrassingly mention that it probably took me 15 minutes to get out of that first room when you arrive underwater.

These are kina minor quibbles in the whole since the exploration and discovery are the highlights of the game and it's got me.

I'm playing the game on PC (Nvidia 780) and the framerate hasn't been all that great with some annoying frame drops. I managed to solve a good portion of the framerate drop by 1) Setting to Adaptive Sync inside the game 2) In the NVidia Control panel setting up a profile for the game and turning on the Threaded Optimization. For some reason that is defaulted to off - so the game was using only 1 core to offload GPU tasks. Those two things helped smooth out the framerate issues.

Looks like the public beta patch (on Steam) fixes the stuttering low fps issue I was having. Game plays pretty good now and nice to play without that annoyance.

I’ve put about two hours into Soma so far.  I really like it.  Frictional Games does a great job of making environments themselves interesting and I enjoy just looking through all the bits of lore you can find in the environment.  I just recently finished Alien: Isolation and the difference in world building is night and day.  I never really cared about anything going on in Alien but here everything is mysterious and fascinating.

So far this feels more like a straight sci-fi story than horror but I am perfectly OK with that.  The game did make me feel bad about my actions twice within the first hour though, so there is that.

Still playing through it. Get about an hour in a night or so.

I have to say the monster AI is kinda annoying. There's been a few areas where the monster pops up after a few seconds of entering a room. Then you gotta wait 15-20 seconds for it to go away so you can move on - but sometimes it comes right back and you gotta wait again. The first few times it was scary but now it's become a major annoyance of how they stick on you. You can't explore at all when they're on you like that.

But still enjoying the game overall despite the complaints I've made.

Live-action limited web series will serve as a prequel to the game and flesh out the story more (Link).

Is it as bad as Alien: isolation? Despite the developers stating that the AI wasn't scripted, somehow the Alien was always within the same exact part of the ship as me within 30 seconds to 1 minute. It made exploring an exercise in frustration.

I thought Alien: Isolation was far far worse.  The alien AI in that was actually tethered to you at a distance based on your difficulty setting.  Alien was also a lot less forgiving with its “stealth” mechanics.  In SOMA, there seem to be a lot more checkpoints, you CAN actually run from the monsters and getting hit isn’t an instant fail state.

Great blog post by the team at Frictional Games on SOMA's performance 10 days post launch. It looks like they've already made their money back and enough to fund themselves for another two years. Very glad to hear this news.

I finished the game tonight. Not much can be said about the ending without spoiling it other than to say it makes an impact. Also, the real ending is after the credits so make sure you wait.

Overall, a very good game that I would recommend.
