My new CGW mag has a listing of 101 free games. Some are web based and some are downloadable. Many look really cool. I did'nt realize that games like Ground Control,  the Marathon games, and Mount & Blade were all free.

Nanaca Crash! is pretty fun. Got 1849 on my 3rd try.

Switchball looks like a blast. Its a mix of Super Monkey Ball and Marble Madness.

You can find a lot of other free games listed HERE . Im not sure these are all the same ones thats in my magazine though. The mag lists some great looking Half Life 2 ones also.

Mount & Blade is not really free. You can download and play the full game until you reach level 6. To go furthur, you must pay $14 and get a key.

Wow, when did they make Ground Control free?  I gotta get me some of that.

Also, to add to the list:
Jets'n'Guns
http://jng.rakeingrass.com/

Starscape
http://www.moonpod.com/English/about_ss.php

Whole crapload of free games
http://www.wickedsmallgames.com/

I realize the first two aren't really free (decent-sized demos, tho) but they are good enough to warrent pimping out.

I really want to like the game and not go all Kobra on it.

I fiddled around with it for about 15 minutes and was impressed with what the developer was doing.  Then I went back to WoW, Dragon Quest 8, and a score of other games.

There's just too many good games out there - it's hard to devote time to "underappreciated gems" like Mount & Blade.

There's a big difference between FREE and DEMO.

Sure the demo is free but most of those games are not.

I know these people deserve money for their product, but the whole marketing thing ruins all my attempts to find real freeware games.

Posted this on OO as well, but figured I might as well post it here too. Don't want to try and overpimp this club, but it's on topic so what the hell.

http://pcgamefinds-club.1up.com/ - basically a free game's locator for a club I made on 1up - with some spiffy HTML to boot.

All these links are good stuff, so I'll be adding more during the week.

no it's weird. There's like super secret specials and stuff.  Like when you hit that crazy girl who makes you dissappear, you have to hit the right person and you can do super warps.  It's weird, but almost no skill is required.  Aside from timing your bumps and judicious use of your three-bumps things.

Mount and Blade doesn't really get great until you have a large army of followers. The huge battles are so fun!
I have yet to get a siege battle, but I think it will happen soon....

Nice!  This is what I'm talking about when I say "free."  I've added it to my bookmarks.  Wish I had it last night when I was desperate for some little diversions.

Oh yeah, you can add S.W.I.N.E. to your list.  I stumbled upon it yesterday.

I just got 5959.41. I don't think I need to play again, as that record is good enough.
It also took me like 10 minutes.
