Maybe that will open up some slots for those who are going to wait in line the 22nd.  Maybe some will decide to skip it now.

In many ways, they bring up very valid points in that article.  It can be said about every console launch, though.

If Fox tells me to do something, I must do the exact opposite.

Thus, I am buying two.

While I certainly wouldn't complain if someone handed me a 360, I agree with that article 100%.

The second they called 50 Cent: Bulletproof 'popular' for this season, they lost me.  There are valid points in that editorial, but there are MANY people who will be just fine with the system running on their non-widescreen 30" Sony Wega using component.  I don't think that that kind of TV is that unreasonable - a quick scan of Best Buy shows a Sharp 32" w/ component selling for 250 bucks.

(http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6338876&type=product&cmp=++&id=1076627796894)

This is what we in the journalism industry call 'selling your article'.  It gets people talking about it, but it isn't really well rooted in reality.

Besides...that same TV will make your current gen games look better too...does that mean you should tack the price on them as well?

You agree with this?!?
"And if you add peripherals, such as the ability to play games over the Internet, the Xbox 360 costs nearly $600!"
Are you Canadian?

Aside from that glaringly silly statement, I agree with many of the arguments presented, but its extremely one sided (ohhh yeah, its Fox).  Their article doesn't cover the fact that MS is updating their BC playlist and will provide them for free online or through Live, it doesn't mention that you can play in HD on your Computer Monitor with a $40 peripheral.  It also doesn't mention that those games that are BC will be significantly graphically enhanced by software emulation.

Me too.  Come on.  50 Cent:  Bulletproof popular?  I would call them complete idiots if they didn't mention the fact that The Warriors was really good.  "You Warriors are good.  Real good." --- "The best".

You can get a CD sent to you that will make it backwords compatable...or download a program from MS website and burn it to a cd and it will update your system as well to play games. You do need the hard drive though, no matter what.

I've heard at least 3 solutions to this problem... kiosks where you can use a memory card to transfer, patch disc you can get for cost of shipping, and possibly patches on video game magazine discs. I don't know the details or timing for any of these.

they need to rename the X-box 360 to the wallet... because you need a fat one to get what you need to play it like a regular x-box..lol

I am taking the approach I take ot every system: Wait... let em build up the games library some, let them fix all the production bugs, let the price wars help your cause, then grab one.

Xbox 360 (w/hdd) 399.99
Silver Live to upgrade to play Xbox games: 0.00

I don't see how that is any more expensive than where we started.

Looks like an NY Post article reprinted at Fox News.  Same company?   Lots of the points are valid, and one reason I'm thinking of skipping the 360.  I just don't see a huge game for me, I'd almost rather wait for the 360/PDZ bundle in the summer.

Besides, it shouldn't be this hard to buy a console!

And why does this new forum always bring me to the index when I hit post reply the first time?

I'm not sure if this is a response to my post, but you get all you need to play online with the $399 setup (This includes the game Hexic HD and several free demos you can download.  That also includes a free 1month subscription to GOld)
$500 if you want to include a game like COD2 and the $50 pricetag for an extra 12 month subscription to Live.  Still well below the supposed $600 pricetag to even think about playing online that they imply.

My monitor solution was for a budget gamer that doesn't have an HD set.  For them, I bet a $50 solution to play on their 17" PC monitor in HD would make them very happy.

If you need to play with someone else, buy 'em the wired controller for $30 if $50 is too steep.

Also if you don't have a broadband connection, you can still get your BC content free by burning it onto a CD from any computer with internet access and install it from there.  Microsoft already announced this service last week.

I agree with some of their thoughts and disagree with some of it.  My point in posting the article is that it might, and I hope it does, have an impact on some who were on the fence and will now not go get in line and leave a slot for those definitely want one.

Probably won't make an iota of a difference, but I thought it would stir some chit chat.  Just more 360 rhetoric to add to the fray prior to launch.

While the $600 is on the high end of things, I feel the point "Hidden Costs" is valid.  Speaking for myself, I would want at minimum, the hard drive, wireless controller, and a 360 game to play on the new system.

EVERY game on the launch list is screaming rental to me.  Even if I play through them 2x each I can easily do that in a month and at $20 a month to join some kind of rental club, that is good enough for me.  Truth is I have only, in all my years of gaming, played through my games more than twice a handfull of times.  Understand, ofcourse, that Live has never been a big deal to me.  I am a single player gamer predominantly.

That was all said to say that I could get buy with the Premium package for

System $400
Tax $32
Warranty $50

Total $482 approximately.  Then just pay $20 a month for a year for a whopping total of $722 for a year's gaming.  That's my plan anyway.  And if I MUST buy one of those, then it will be when it hits the under $25 mark.

Well you do get all that.  A hard drive, a wireless controller, and a game (Hexic HD, maybe not what you had in mind, but its alot more than most companies put with a new system release).
You also get a free month of Live,  a fancy faceplate, a lan cable, and  Live headset.  that is far more than your hypothetical minimum,  and that isn't including the Demos that you will get to play for free.  All of the Arcade Demos plus Kameo, Kong, COD, and whatever else titles there are out there.  No more dropping money on a magazine you won't read just for the Demo disc...

Wait, no matter how you get the BC coding, do you still need the HD in the end, or can you use a memory card on its own?

New for the PS3 from GOPGames...

"George Bush's Iraqi Adventure"

Now you can be the grunt on the ground dodging roadside explosions, eating $30 Halliburton hamburgers and maybe even dying for the American Oil Companies.

Be aware that the entire instruction manual included with this game may be based on lies and cooked intel.

Alternate Title "Vietnam II."

Buy it in a Red (Police) State near you.
