(should this go in Sports?) I don't know of any other driving game that goes in Sports (MC3, Burnout 3, GT4, etc.), so why should this? I'm IN for a rent until my copy arrives.

When we do get to page 2, I'm curious to hear about 2 things:
1) How it compares to the (yawn) demo
2) How a non-gear-head might enjoy it.

Gamespot gave it a 9.2. The review is the best review I can remember them doing and I've been a member from the very early days.

Okay, I have too many Xbox games anyway, so I may as well trade a mess of them in for Forza. If Simon gets on Live again, we can look forward to a lot of fun racing!

I'm taking the wait and see on this one... no wheel for the XBox, so I don't know how this would get in front of GT4 or GTR on my playlist.
Might get it this weekend if the impressions are overly favorable though.

The Fanatec wheel is supposed to be OK but not worth the $150. No real force feedback either.
Someone needs to get the Logitech GT4 wheel to work with XBox!!

Well, outside of the force feedback, shifter and price issue (maybe the non-900 degree turn)...what isn't so good about it?

I can do without a good shifter and 900 degree rotation, but once you've tried a true force feedback, the "rumble" wheels are just plain silly.

The price is the biggest obstacle. I got the Logitech wheel because it was USB and would work on my PC as well. A $150 wheel with no FFB for one game is really rather silly when you think about it.

Mom wants Forza and the Fanatec wheel for her B-Day and Mother's day!!
If the stupid wheel was priced better, I'd get it.
The $150 for the Logitech GT4 is too much but at least it's tough to find a fault with it (other than $150).
I got so excited for the game that I picked up the guide tonight...Will never use it...

So... What region will you all be "living in?" As much as I like the Japanese cars and aspire to own European cars I will probably just stick with the good ol' U S of A. I like their cars the least, but we shall see. I guess I will take a look at what is available in each before I make a decision, but it just feels weird to pick anything but my native land. For the same reason I don't go evil in RPG's; it just isn't natural...

Definitely the Japanese area for me. I don't think you drive Japanese cars exclusively. I just won a Pontiac GTO after the FF races and I seem to recall being able to buy cars from other regions (took a look at an Elise, but didn't buy).

I'll be in Japan too.
It appears you can still get all the other regions but they are more expensive.
The guide is actually pretty good! Shows prices/rare-ness in the different regions as well as turn-by-turn track layouts.

Excuse the dumb questions from a non-Xbox owner who is getting interested in Forza...
In one of the reviews it mentions using brake and throttle "buttons" on the Xbox S controller. Are these analog buttons, and is there really some amount of travel to the input range, or is it like the PS2 where the input value is derived from pressure?
Also, in Forza, can the throttle/brake be mapped to a stick, preferable the right one?
I feel the dark force of the Xbox drawing me in...

In most racing games for XBox the default is the triggers and there is plenty of play in them. You can usually change the controls to map to the other stick too... Time for you to get an Xbox!!

Note that the strategy guide can be downloaded for $10 from www.primagames.com. Although in this case I might spring for the paper since it's only $5 more and my computer is nowhere near the Xbox Lorini

Ugh... two quotes from the IGN review have tossed me from "on the fence" to "completely out" My conclusion on the AI? It's not as gentle or as soft as in GT4. It will hit you, mistakenly or not. It occasionally does a little rubber band catch-up, and it's certainly smart and interesting. It's definitively aggressive and sometimes it's just plain brutal -- for better or for worse. I personally liked the challenge of a fierce and unpredictable AI -- it makes the single-player game that much more realistic. But my warning is this: Be prepared for a challenge and frustration. I experience enough challenge and frustration at work. I do not want that out of a video game. The in-game graphics are also good, but not great. Compared to a number of racers, specifically GT4, Forza holds up pretty well, but direct comparisons to that lowly PS2 game (how dare I!) prove a little disappointing. First, the car models aren't as good. They're just not. The car models are again of high quality, but they're not terribly refined, they're often blocky and lack detail, and in some cases, they just don't bring out the beauty of that particular model (whether it's an RX7 or a GT Challenger). Again, they're respectable, just not brilliant. Not as pretty as GT4? No wheel? Frustrating, bumping AI? No thanks. gellar
