apparently there are no patches for the D2D version, you just have to re-download the latest version of the game.  hopefully they remedy that soon because having to uninstall then reinstall for the latest version is going to get annoying.

admittedly this game has gotten buried under all the other releases, so maybe by the time I get back to it D2D will be back on the ball.

Aganezer's review convinces me that at the very least the game is "good enough" and as I'm already interested in a zombie game that attempts to be more than a shooter, I think I'll like it. I'm interested in a few good solid hours of gaming and the price is right. I'll buy tonight.

Its a hard one to recommend right now due to the regular crashing. There are a couple things you can do to make sure you never lose progress.

1. When you finish a mission save immediately after returning to base. Once you return to base after a mission it will show a dialog listing everything you found on the mission. Click 'OK', then press 'ESC' to save. I've had some of the various fort screens crash. Its rare, but the last thing you want is to lose an entire completed mission.

2. Save right before you choose a mission. 99% of the crashes will happen when loading a mission. Like I said, its about 20% of the time. Don't let it catch you off guard and save before starting a mission.

There is no quick save during a mission, but I've only ever had it crash once during a mission so it shouldn't be a problem.

the new update also has new content.  I think it's time to give this another shot.

That update list looks like it could be a massive boost to an already fantastic indie game.

Tempted to give this a try - how buggy/playable was it after the patch?

Yeah the camera control and the basic interface was just too horrible for me, it actually made me nauseous.  I died the first time just trying to play the intro.  I tried installing a cheat save game but still couldn't get into the game.  Looks like I'll have to wait til Dead State comes out to get this kind of gameplay.

Kind of an unorthodox fix, but it would probably be playable on a smaller monitor if you have one.

I watched Cloverfield on a smaller screen one time, and it helped.

every now and then I'll re-download this, and then promptly forget to even install it.  it didn't make a great first impression.
