Rats, my gold trial period just ran out and I'm out of cash to buy both a sub and FNR3.  Thankfully I've gotten a new job and should be getting regular paychecks again, but until then...

Say, does anyone here that's participating have a digitizing rig?  I'd like to see videos of these fights if possible.  Is there a way to save and send replays on live?

That would be MARVELOUS Marvin Hagler, sir.

And great job setting things up there Scoopers.  Well done.

If everyone fights everyone else 1 time, that means we all have 7 fights, right?  Or is there some tricky math at work here that I am missing?

They really need a Spectator Mode so we can all watch the Title Fight between the top two guys.

You may want to take somebody like Sugar Ray or The Golden Boy, Cheeseball.  You know, someone that you can throw 115 punches a round with, without them dropping to the floor from complete exhaustion.

Seems to me we have reached a critical mass for the Lockdown Knockdown Tourney. We have 11 participants which means 10 fights.

Of course, anyone wants to join mid-tourney, post your information and I will add you to the standings list.

Matches are not officially scheduled so its up to you guys to seek out who you haven't fought yet.

Once you finish a fight, please post the results here and any comments (trash talk) about the fight. I would love if you included if it is a decision or KO and in what round the fight stopped. I will update the standings info in the top post as well as who as fought who to keep things straight.

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE????

Why don't we just do brackets and let the winners keep going? It'll be quicker and then we can do another one or start a losers tourney while this one is still going?

Well, I was hoping people just contact people on Xbox Live by mail and then coordinate a time to play but setting up a lobby would be fine with me too. Not sure how to do that tho.

As far as brackets, I want us to do that eventually but for now, I thought round robin would be the best.

Everyone plays everyone else at least once. Of course people can play others as many times as they want but have to agree to which fight will be the one that counts.

Once the first tourney is over we can talk about how to set up a bracket tournament which I also think would be ALOT of fun too.

Is that cool devil?

Devil and I have been doing this for a long time Scoop.  I think his concern is that a tourney with brackets would be much quicker, with an actual chance of getting completed.  Having 11 different people fighting 10 fights is going to be a tall order.  Especially with all the great new games coming out in the next 2 months to distract them (us).

I think that's where he's coming from, and certainly not critisizing your idea of a cool round-robin.  If that helps at all.

Ok, Lockdown and Devil, I updated the tourney with brackets. Unforunately, we don't have an even number. I did a random seeding and Devil came out last with no opponent so once we get one more person, he will be fighting him or we can have lockdown fight him.

What do you guys think?

Anyway, everyone, check the top post to see who you are matched up against in the first round bracket of the Lockdown Knockdown Tourney!!

I was thinking about going old school too and Lamotta was one I was considering, so was Sugar Ray Robinson, but neither was real comfortable to me because of the way I like to fight. I am down to a couple fighters now and should have a decision in a bit.

Cool.  Great job Scoop!

Looks like me and my fellow Steeler fan will be beating the crap out of each other first!  I foresee lots of hooks and uppercuts coming my way!   biggrin

I still need to add you to my friends list Arkon.  At least, I think I do.  I will check into this right now....

Booner, it is so funny to see you make a real cognitive choice about this, when people like Devil will most likely flip a coin.  Heads is Random Fighter A.  Tails is Random Fighter B.   It really doesn't matter who he picks either, he will fight the same damn way regardless!

Yeah Scoop - The Philly Fairy (his new boxing name!) is right. I was just looking at the tourney as an easy way to get something complete. We've tried a bunch of league setups and nothing ever finished. People are usually too busy. I'd love to have a league setup if it would work.

And a HUGE thanks for setting this all up!

My first round bye gives me a chance to ice down my arms and get ready for a beating!

So I'm anal about my boxer.

Alrighty, I was down to De La Hoya, Jermain Taylor, and Winky Wright.

De la Hoyas' small stature was a bit disconserting vs. some of the real bruisers I'm going up against. Short fast arms are useless if I have to get so close that I'd be inside fighting...no thanks. Oscar is out.

Winky Wright would have been fine. Right size and style, but he's left-handed. I know we can switch stances, but I'm not sure if the game knows the difference in power, and I'd rather not take the chance. Winky can watch from the first row.

That means that Taylor gets the call.

So Clanwolfer....lets get it on!

I played a bunch of online games last night and learned some things as well as lose and lose and lose.

First off, people online are not using the TPC soley I finally figured out. People were working me left and right with quick punch and jabs. I finally figured out they were using Controller Configuration 3 which lets you use the buttons for jabs, crosses, hooks and uppercuts, and then using the stick for the big punches.  :x

IMHO, there is no way possible to beat anyone using the TPC alone against an opponent using Config 3. In fact, if you want to 'win' online you simply have to use the buttons. I wish EA had a setting where you only fight people using configuration 1 (TPC only). (you change your config by under the MY EA selection on the main xbox live menu).

Anyway, I wanted to ask you guys if you minded we make this a Configuration 1 only tourney. What say you?

I'm in 100% agreement.

I too was flustered by my first few online bouts. I was trying to box with TPC and would be just routed by guys (using the hardest hitting fighters) just closing in to hammer my body with hooks. There was no doubt they were using the face buttons to get them off as fast as they did. Only one of my first five online fights felt like a fight. I still had my ass handed to me, but this guy fought a much better 'fight' than I and didn't seem to have a case of buttonmashitis.

Like I stated at the beginning of another thread:  If I wanted to play to have fun, I used the TPC.  If I really wanted to win, I used the buttons.

In this tourney, I am all for forcing Config 1 though.  I am certainly in this for the fun of doing something together as a forum first and foremost.  Hell, we even have a Bovine joining in the fun!

Whatever you guys decide is fine with me.  Either way though, I will only be using Config 1.  I enjoy pain.   :?
