Crap.  That's where I went to get all patches without having to wait in queues.

If you guys tell me what you need, I'll nab it and re-host it.  I have access to a lot of different sites for patches etc.

Xfire is also a useful place to grab patches through. Tends to be easily forgotten that it has this service.

This is terrible news! There are so many good mods on Filefront! This economy just got personal! That's it economic downturn, I know where you live and I'm coming to kick some ass and chew some gum... and I'm all out of ass... wait!? I mean!?

From what I've seen on usenet, the concern isn't so much patches as those are everywhere, it's the mods. There's like what, 60+ subdomains for specific games at Filefront and (from what I've read anyway) there are mods there not hosted anywhere else.  icon_eek

I'm really starting to wonder if CeeKay and I are the same person (we both started threads on this within about 25 minutes or so of each other). Very scary.  paranoid

Anyway, thought I'd move my post about it over from hardware/software hell...
-----------------
Yikes tear, FileFront announced it was "suspending operations":
Quote
Dear FileFront User:

We regret to inform you that due to the current economic conditions we are forced to indefinitely suspend the FileFront site operations on March 30, 2009. If you have uploaded files, images or posted blogs, or if you would like to download some of your favorite files, please take this opportunity to download them before March 30th when the site will be suspended.

We would like to give a warm thank you to all of you who have been part of the FileFront communities we have built together. Your support has had a meaningful impact for all of us here at FileFront. Again, we want to give you a sincere “thank you” for your support over the years and wish you all the very best.
I was using their service to host some stuff I made with The Movies (handy once Lionhead unplugged The Movies Online a while back), and some Comic Book Creator stuff I did using City of Heroes screenshots. It was just a handy free way to make files available for download without needing to book some ftp space. I hate to see 'em go.

And now and then I did find that Google searches for patches and updates would take me to Filefront and it was generally smooth downloading from there without too much fuss.

While I appreciated their free file hosting service, I never could tell how they made any money. They didn't seem to have much advertising on the site.

I went ahead and "off loaded" what I had there. It included a couple MP3s from my playing the DS guitar-sim Jam Sessions. It was the only way I could think to share it at the time.  icon_smile

heh, I didn't even think to look for something like this in hardware/software hell since I was mainly thinking about the mods portion.

Yeah I often forget about the great patching source Xfire is. Recently I went looking for a patch and ended up on sites all over the web with a variety of patch names. Through Xfire I was able to confirm quickly I was already at the most recent patch level. Not to mention it also has great voicechat which I often use for Vassal sessions. slywink

I tend to feel i'm the xfire fanboi but it's not that - the app has a load of great stuff for gamers which seems to get missed by most frown

I'd love everyone to join up to  Gaming Trend group smile

Or the one I run OO smile
