My first thought was Purple Tentacle, but I think Minsc & Boo might edge him out.

Reasons are the same for both characters: awesomeness.

It's pretty close...

From an attitude perspective, I love the "hero" for Outcasted - Cutter Slade (or something like that). Good times.

From a comic perspective, I love "Yangus" from Dragon Quest 8. Or maybe a name perspective. I just love saying "Yangus". What's wrong with me?

However, my all-time favorite is HK-47.

"Qualification: It’s just that, you are an organic meatbag, master. And all that water… how the noise from your insides sloshing around doesn’t drive you mad, I have no idea."

Gotta love Wikiquotes. Good stuff.

Here's another one... "Translation: 98% probability that members of the miniature organic's tribe are being held by Sand People, master. Doubtless he wishes assistance. [There is also a] 2% probability that the miniature organic is simply looking for trouble and needs to be blasted. That may be wishful thinking on my part, master."

Good times, good times.

I'd say it's a three-way tie between Guybrush Threepwood - Manny Calavera - HK-47. Countless hours worth of laughter have resulted from playing their games and for that they are eternally committed to memory.

I honestly don't have a favorite character I don't think.  I don't make a connection with the characters and merely see them as a means to an end.

Probably Solid Snake/Big Boss for me.  Though I agree with all of the mentions of HK-47.

After being reminded with those quotes I have to go with HK-47.

Also, while not my favorite, I have to put in an honorable mention for Citan Uzuki from Xenogears.  In most RPGs, the figure that acts all scholarly is often a wimp in combat with an emphasis on supporting arts but not only does Citan have the whole scholarly, all-knowing act down, but he's the biggest badass in combat in the entire game- no wimpy ranged attacks for him.  He's all about whooping ass with his samurai sword.

There's a big list, but it's pretty tough to top Garrett from the Thief series.  You can't get much more bad-ass.

Yeah, HK-47 is probably one of my favorite characters as well from the comedy standpoint.

Samus from Metroid has always been one of my favorites, just because she is a badass with a lot of cool gadgets on her badass suit.

Nah I just realise it is just a game.  I don't think I have ever played a game where I came away and a month later remembered the names of the characters.  For me, it is just a game, I get enjoyment from it, but don't really form any sort of connection with it.

I do indeed pity you.  Thankfully, it's still not too late.  There are several Scumm emulators out there to enjoy these classics and Curse of Monkey Island, in particular, is still visually stunning.

Dude... play the first game as soon as get a chance because the third one, The Curse of Monkey Island, is the gold standard for comedy in games.

Frog from Chrono Trigger was particularly cool, so much that his theme is the ringtone on my phone. People always ask where I found that catchy ringtone...

Other than that, I wouldn't say I have a favorite, while I enjoyed characters like Minsk and Boo, no one character has really truly stood out to me. If I was forced to pick at gunpoint I would choose Simon Belmont, silent vampire hunter...

Recent memory: I always thought Auron kicked ass, hes like dead, but alive, and fire and stuff, cool dude.

I have had others, but you know how it is, the series dies out and you forget and then it's just like, blah, oh I found Auron!

BIg potential for FFX spoilers here so tread carefully
Spoiler for Hiden:
hes not really dead or alive. Hes pretty much just in between realities...or maybe in both at the same time.

Either way he is an effing awesome character, good choice. ANd post 6500. Snazzy.
