Ultima in Final Fantasy 3 (U.S.) is my favorite.
I'm also partial to Ice2. It's not weak like Ice1, it's not overdrawn and overblown like Ice3; it gets the job DONE.
(Summoning Shiva in FFX, too, because she's hawt)
That said, my least favorite is any Poison spell. I never use poison in any RPG ever.

For Final Fantasy? I like Bahamut. As for as least favorite, I'd have to say silence. I just never cast it. If I can't destroy what is in front of me with raw power, I'm usually a dead man anyway. Making them resist my silence spell 600 times isn't gonna help me much.

My favorite was that "O" wizard spell in Ultima III (forget the name, but the letter was "O") that weakened all monsters to one hit from death. Great for levelling up your non magic characters!
Honorable mention goes to the wizard spell "P" which had no name and killed all but one or two monsters! ULTIMA III~!

I'm keeping it strictly Final Fantasy for the moment...
favorite: Holy
least-favorite: the summons that have an 8-minute cutscene

I'm partial to confuse spells. It's always nice to get the enemies to fight amongst themselves As for a specific spell, I'd have to say "Gates of Heaven" from Legend of Dragoon. I always like it when characters announce their spells when they cast them, and the spell just had a beautiful majesty to it.

Heh, you mentioned Ultima. Is it wrong that I still remember most of the Ultima 5 spells? As far as powerful spells go, there is nothing that tops the Armageddon spell from Ultima 5. The world ends and everything dies. That has a certain tone of finality to it don't it.

I must not be hardcore enough. The only spell name I can remember is Mahalito from Wizardry, I think.

That sounds pretty hardcore to me, remembering something like that. I've always gotten a lot of use out of the old haste spell regardless of game.

Man, not using poison and silence? Bio, Silence, Slow, and a few other out of the mainstream spells were amazingly useful in Final Fantasy 2 & 3.
As for my favorite spell, probably Knights of the Round summon from FFVII.

hehheh - knights of the round is definitely pretty hard to beat. for sheer badass coolness, my personal favorite summons is yojimbo from ffx...

Really, nothing beats any of the Omega tech attacks from Crono Trigger, Magus, Crono and Lucca had a particularly awesome one. All in all they took the cake for awesome magic-like attacks.
In Final Fantasy it's tougher, I liked Meteo a lot from FF4 and Alexander was one of the best summons in FF6.
In Paper Mario 2 there was an attack that kept making a star bigger and bigger and bigger and it ended up hitting like 7 times. Or the art attack, where you moved the cursor all around the enemies and then they get hit all to hell.
If it was a DnD setting I would have to say Web, I would web the hell out of enemies, run it get a few criticals run out and blast a fireball in there.
Yeah, it's too hard to pick one.

That's a tough one! And I'm not quite sure what to say. I kinda like Rydia's "Shiva" summon in FFIV, just because I like the ICE PARTICLES and the "wheeeeeez" of the wind. Ultima, for sure, is one that I'll remember forever, just because I would make sure to cast it with Celes or Terra or someone and then GoGo would follow and follow suit. Four Ultimas = pwnage. Goddamn, what game was it where the bad-guy would summon like, a whole friggen' SUN that would come in and get incredibly close to your party but it wouldn't touch them. That was neat.
The Omega tech attacks from CT DID indeed rock.

This is a tough one. I think, for final fantasy style games, my favorite has to be one of the summons. Maybe the three sisters summon (the hidden aeon) or bahamut? And didnt Yuna have an Ultima spell or some such? Right near the end of her tree-I remember something like that and thinking it kicked ass. For overall, I am going to go with a sleeper. Planescape: Torment had perhaps the best spells of any 2d isometric RPG of all time. they were just fantastic. Colorful, vibrant, fun. Some of the the level 6-7 super spells were so powerful they actually stopped the action, and the spell was played out over a relatively static screen for more effect-some of these were pretty involved, but I can't remember the name of the one that was my favorite off the top of my head. It rocked though.

I'd say Leviathan from FFVII looked cool as shit then whoops 200 damage, that was always a killer for me. Bad ass summoned monster then they hit like a girl scout.

Wow, you must all be super players, lol!
Those are all spectacular spells you mentioned, and I particularly like when people collect a train of enemies (saw about 50 damselflies following someone last night)... then blast em all to bits, usually with a Firega or similar deal.
HOWEVER - I must admit that my most used - and useful - (if not spectacular) spell has to be anything that has a word in it like: Cure, Heal, Health, etc... I'm so sad, lol... :icon_confused:

Frozen Orb. If I could take Frozen Orb out of Diablo 2 and into other games, I'd be as giddy as a schoolgirl. Built in crowd control. Mass slaughter when fired in the general direction of mobs. Serious damage against a single boss when the distance is judged correctly. Ah, Frozen Orb.
