I have seen that clip at least 10 times now and I still have no idea what was really being said by Hitler in the scene. Know Your Meme has the original subtitles available, as well as the origin. You can also lose an afternoon on Youtube just looking for different versions. My favorites were getting banned from XBox Live and finding out that someone had stolen his idea for a Hitler spoof video.

looks like everything will be fixed when GMT crosses over to tomorrow. Then the internal clock will think it is march 1st, not Feb 29th. People who are +GMT at reporting that things are good now.

I personally think our PS3s just time traveled the last 24 hours. As GMT crosses your area, they are coming back online. To us it's been 24 hours. To the PS3, it's been a millisecond.

from armageddon (appropriately enough): You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it? the way things are, it's kinda a miracle so much stuff does work...

waaay too much funny stuff on gaf: We're just getting started... What a day! March is always an exciting time of year when we can roll up our sleeves and finally show you what we have planned for the year and beyond. As I’m sure you saw, on Monday, we experienced some issues with older model PlayStation 3's. We believe our industry leading technology is paving the way forward and showing our competitors that the PlayStation brand is unbeatable. With the immense power of the Cell Broadband Engine the older units managed to fix themselves without any intervention from our engineers. Unbelieveable! It's this self-resurrection that will lead PlayStation and the industry forward in 2010 and beyond. Thank you all. Jack Tretton, President and CEO

How do you know it's actually your PS3 that returns? It could be iteration 2 of your PS3, which could mean iteration 1 is somewhere else, being played by someone else, possibly even another iteration of you.

While this incident is something that should never have happened, I'm amazed at the "outrage" I'm seeing on the web over it. It's just one day of downtime, and nobody lost anything. Even I am able to do something else than play on my PS3 once in a while.

From what I've read, trophies earned during the downtime work perfectly well even now.

It's likely they lost trophies from just before the error when the systems reset before they could sync it with the server. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be permanent or recurring data loss.

CafePress needs to get a T-shirt design for "No Fat Bricks" and then the PS3 (Foreman Grill edition) with February 29, 2010 stamped on it.

If you already own a 360, PS3 is a bit of a disappointment. Couple of exclusive games don't really make it worthwhile. Some of us who got the launch PS3 are still bitter about all the broken promises.

As usual the internet blew this way out of proportion. I think people (myself included) enjoy any chance to make fun of the PS3 due to all of the arrogance shown by Sony during the PS3's launch and buildup. In a vacuum the PS3 fat is a wonderful piece of hardware. It's all of the other baggage that makes it a target.
To me Live being down is more frustrating than PSN. Live is a service that I pay for. PSN is free. I am willing to forgive Sony more than Microsoft. The inability to play single player games when PSN was down was a little scary though.

Some of us who got the launch PS3 are still bitter about all the broken promises. this Heavy Rain was my first day one game for the PS3 since Metal Gear Solid 4,and it kinda broke on me(the game not the system) Blu-Ray is a great edition i guess, but again not for me...i don't have a HDTV,so its not a major factor for me not sure why but i was expecting HOME to be the greatest thing ever after all the stuff i read up about it,and although it is still impressive in parts its nowhere near as great as i was hoping it,i went onto HOME(American and UK)last week, and it has improved a lot i have had 2 RRoDs and 1 E74 and had them replaced,if i got the YLOD,coupled with the PS3 being out of warranty now,i don't think i would buy another system, while i would buy a new 360 if that wasn't being replaced for free but anyway,i think we have had this conversation many times...all i can say is i play all my games on the 360 unless there is an exclusive on the PS3(and i play PS2 games on my PS3,as i have no memory card for my PS2,LOL) PS3 has its fans, and that's fine...competition makes the other side try harder,so hopefully both systems will continue to grow As usual the internet blew this way out of proportion.

the PSN is free yes,but you still have to buy the games to play on PSN,so i can still see people being pissed off with it being down...the offline game thing though was more of a factor for me as well

Even I am able to do something else than play on my PS3 once in a while. I think a lot of it is gamers realizing how their entertainment it tied to the whim of some corporate people. Certainly this was a mistake but it showed pretty clearly that Sony could, if they wanted to, stop people from playing anything. People love this idea that once they buy something it is "their's" to do what they want with. This just shows that really people are under Sony's thumb even if they don't use any of the online features. Now I think this is true for any modern system but I think people are still shocked sometimes to see it.

I agree that it was the inability to play single player retail games and all PSN games that was disconcerting.

I've never regretted buying it.

Frustrating as it was, the lack of single player really depended on the game and how it accessed trophy data. I was able to play bioshock2 single player during d-day since it was already installed. I think the whole "leave it off" was trying to minimize calls to their support center.
Oh and don't forget uncharted 1 and 2 on that "small" list of exclusives worth playing.

This outage was for a day? Yeah. I even saw coverage about it on the local news last night. So funny how blown out of proportion it was. And to think that sometimes I can't login to XBL even though I pay for that.

This outage was for a day? Yeah. I even saw coverage about it on the local news last night. So funny how blown out of proportion it was. And to think that sometimes I can't login to XBL even though I pay for that.
Sony has had a history of shooting themselves in the foot. Now they have four years to fix this bug. Let's wait and see.
