Just watched the trailer on Gametrailers. From what I can see, this game is going to be great-or as the developer on the trailer says, "Fucking great" LOL!

I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully they manage to keep all the features in it, like the realistic fire effects. I like the idea of being able to set a massive fire and then trap my enemies with it. The only worry I have is how well it will run on my PC. I'm only allowing myself to do major upgrades every 2 years now, and this will be out about 6 months before I can do anything.

I will likely get it on 360 if I get it, since that won't have problems running it like I'm sure my PC would.

Ummm Wow. It cracks me up that some people in other threads are dismissing this as a simple Far Cry sequel. I think only the name has anything to do with the origonal. This looks like a blast to play and is #1 on my list for fall.

they really should have given it a different name and maybe just called it a spiritual successor to Far Cry.

Yeah I've never understood the name. It has nothing to do with the original and isn't even being developed by the same people. I do hope it ends up more like Far Cry and less like Crysis though.

I hope it winds up like neither. People hated the mutagens in Far Cry just as much as the Aliens in Crysis. Ubisoft has promised no mutagens or aliens. The guy at Tom's hardware played FC2 on a 360 at E3 and was underwhelmed. Still looks great to me.

Well, the 360/PS3 is no longer cutting edge hardware since neither can do DX10. I suspect the game will look really good on PCs that can handle it.

i hated the mutagens at first, but after a few awesome moments against them, i thought it was a perfect match for the game. i almost didn't buy it because of them, but i am very glad i did. the aliens in crysis still sucked though, mainly because the level mechanics went in the crapper once they appeared. they looked cool, but there wasn't the level of suspense like fighting the mutagens. fc2 looks to be awesome, even though the name is a bad fit.

so did I. I didn't care for that twist so much I never got to any awesome moments. At least Crysis was upfront about there being something other than human enemies.

so did I. I didn't care for that twist so much I never got to any awesome moments. At least Crysis was upfront about there being something other than human enemies. you missed out on one of the coolest levels in gaming imho. at one point, after a harrowing claustrophobic level, you emerge in a besieged merc base under the cover of darkness with the moon shining over head. a force of mutants are attacking the base with several fat boys, some of the cougar mutants and some of the rifle using ones. gun fire and rockets light up the night sky and you can stay pretty much out of it if you are good at sneaking around and taking out mercs without giving yourself away. once you escape the fort, one path has a hanglider atop a tower. if you can stay away from them, the other fatboys (who followed the racket to find the base) won't even know you are there. otherwise you may have to dodge rocket fire long enough to outrun them. a little secluded island with a sharp cliffside awaits to one side and rewards you with some good weapons, armor and health. a zip line lets you leave. back on solid ground, you need to get to the far end of the island and into a second merc base and the mutants attacking it. all along the path you can be hunted by the small fast mutants and their rifle wielding friends and the occasional fat boy. i was so disappointed that there wasn't something equally epic in crysis with a nka, US and alien battleground. crytek dropped the ball there. the reason i ended up liking the mutants is this. it upped the variation in gameplay. i consider far cry to be part: vs mercs outside - vietnam style combat vs mercs inside - swat/raven shield room clearing vs mutants outside - Predator and prey vs mutants inside - Aliens with the small ones, Doom vs the big ones. that level i described above just took the basic game and kicked ass in so many ways.

Wow. Game looks fun.
The developers have said that the part of Far Cry that they enjoyed was the first 1/2 or so, before the mutant things and the game got put more on rails. If the only thing they take from Far Cry is the name and the wide open maps, we're on the right track.

I don't get the mutant hate from Far Cry. If the entire game was like the first half it would've been too boring. Too much been there, done that. The mutants added some spice to the game and upped the tension level.

The D is the duel core version of the Pentium 4. Overall moderate requirements for a shooter like Farcry 2. Would have to know what type of resolution the recommended specs are at though.

Recommended requirements: If you have to ask...
I'll be shocked if it is playable on anything less than a Core 2 Duo and 8800GT.

Why would you say that when the listed spec clearly say something different? In the article that posted the specs they say they worked hard to optimize it so as many people as possible could play it. CeeKay brings up a great point though. Recommended spec should come with a given rez. Not that you would have to list specs for every rez, just pick one in the middle. People who are gamers can figure out the rest. The tough thing would be which rez to pick. Does Valve ask people what rez they play at along with everything else they ask? I have no idea what the "avg" rez would be. I know until a month ago I had a 4 yr old rig and I was playing a ton of games at 1024. some people said they would "never" play that low. Made me feel they thought it was "wire frame" or something I would guess it would be fluid at 1280X1024 but what the heck do I know.

so, a wooden box for the CE: It's tempting, but I'd end up just tossing it once it got in the way on my gameshelf. it's be nice if they started putting useful stuff in the CE other than special cases to collect dust.

Hahaha CeeKay..comparing Far Cry 2 to Fable 2....is that really a tough call ?? since I'm looking forward to both big time, yeah it is. too bad we're scheduled to be extra busy at work that week otherwise I'd take it off. in other news- your AI buddies have meaning this time around. Hopefully this means the game will have a decent AI for your NPC backup, otherwise alot of content will be missed.

It sounds like GameStop will be the place to get the regular edition if you are going to preorder. You get a free "upgrade" to their special preorder version with special packaging (oooh), a fold-out map (oh, my!) and 6 bonus missions estimated at 3 hours of gameplay (...hey, that actually sounds good!).
I would guess those missions will be available to download at some later point, but since I was going to get this anyway I can't complain with free goodies.

anyone confirm this pre-order upgrade is at the stores? i hate to go there only to find out they don't know what the H is going on.
for that, i will go there just to pre-order. hell, why not? launch week game sales have pretty much dried up it seems. even fry's has been pretty tame in that regard, and they have sold games for $20 less on launch in the past.

5 hours with far Cry 2. My only WTF? about the article: Save points can be found across the map, but they're thinly spread. Find yourself on the losing end of a gunfight and you could be pushed back to some thirty minutes beforehand. Without a checkpoint system to ease the passage between save points, the game can at times descend into a brutal slog. We've been assured that the final code will address these issues, and it's vital that it does as, in the code we were witness to, the fault was close to game-breaking. they had damn well put Save Anywhere in the PC version! I remember someone hacked the first one to put it in and eventually it was done via patch, but after the outcry from that they should have learned their lesson.

Yeah, they damn well better have save anywhere for the PC release. I end up using the autosave points in Crysis Warhead quite a bit just because I forget to save, butit still allows me to save whereever and whenever I want.
