Fallout 3 on older systems?

Just curious if any of you have tried running Fallout 3 on an older system.  Mine is really long in the tooth (Athlon XP 3800+, GF 7600 GT, 2 GB RAM), but will run some newer games perfectly fine on the lower settings.  Most recently, both Unreal Tournament 3 and Sacred 2 have run perfectly fine (minus a few bells and whistles), but Empire was a total no-go.  My system falls right between the minimum and recommended specs for FO3, so I was wondering if anyone with a similar system had given it a shot.

This one didn't click with me at all on 360, but I think that had a lot to do with my ineptitude with console FPS games in general.  I'd like to maybe give it a shot on PC.

I'm running mine on a Core™2 Duo E6750 and an 8800 GT 512MB VRAM with some decent detail, a LONG draw distance with no problems.  I think you'd have to turn off some detail, but it should run OK.

The minimum specs are:

2.4GH P4, 1 Gig of RAM and an NVidia 6800 with 256MB VRAM.

The recommended specs are:

Dual core, 2 Gigs of RAM and a video card (including the 7600 series) with 512MB RAM.

As you said, you fall in between those.  So, I did a bit more digging as I eat lunch at my desk.

You can see your 7600 GT card should be able to run FO3 with some settings turned off.


As a side note, Empire TW isn't as smooth on my system as Fallout 3 - and that's without the crashing problem with TW.

Yeah, but you're biased. 

Thanks for the info, sounds like I'm solidly in the "maybe" range, so I'll see if I can get some first-hand feedback.
