Wow, that it eh.  I had a feeling that doing the first tip there would perhaps earn me that one house that is available there...  I just didn't want to raise my Science that high on this character.   Hmmm.    So maybe I'll just need to clear out the Super Mart.

You don't need to raise your science skill.  If you take mentats the temporary impact on the appropriate skill should be enough to allow you to do what you want.

I've just been using FRAPS for instant jpegs as the FO3 screenshot option seems to make everything bitmaps, then you have to convert to make them a decent size.

If anyone with an older PC (Athlon 64 3500+) gets this I'd love to know how it runs.

I've got an Athlon64 3200+/7600GT/2 gigs RAM and running the game at 1024/786 with medium settings (shadows off)

It runs pretty smoothly and looks fine for what I'm used to.  There is a little bit of slow down when there are a lot of characters on the screen, but nothing too jarring

Another old rigger here. F3 seems to run fine on my barton2500 oc'd to 3200/7600GT/ 2GB ram running at 1440x900 w med settings (low water, no shadow). Performance seems comparible to Oblivion. I've mainly just been running around Megaton and haven't done much combat but it feels smooth enough for such an old rig. I figure I can go into VATS if it gets to hectic anyway.

Started again as an evil serial killer type character. I can't believe how different the game is. It's incredible. My first character used rifles and went for headshots, handed out purified water like Jesus, and was loved by all. This new character beats things to death with melee weapons, steals from the weak, and is hated by all.

Even better, I've barely duplicated quests. I've found all new places and all new quests that I didn't know about the first time around. It's like I'm playing a sequel to Fallout 3, only this time I'm Hannibal Lecter instead of Frodo Baggins.

I am really enjoying this game.  icon_cool

3 questions...............

1. Ive heard of a vault between Megaton and that Aerf or whatever town thats on the bridge. Is that true? I cant find it.

2. Whats a good way to make money??? I carry all the loot I can and sell it all over and over but after buying stims, ammo, and repairing my stuff I NEVER have any spare caps for buying anything like scematics or house items.

3. Can someone give me a hint where I run into Dogmeat? I could look it up but dont want a total spoiler on exactly  where and how to get him..just a hint. Thnx.

1.  don't know, haven't found it yet, but i can look when i get home.
2.  all bandit armor repairs other bandit armor so you can make some decent money that way.  wear clothing with + to barter when you sell to make a few extra caps.  scavenge everything and you can find some lying around.  you also get one whenever you drink a cola.
3.  same answer as #1.

Silly me..wasn't repairing things and selling...repairing removes te wieght plus makes stuff worth a LOT more.

Still not found that vault. Not giving up.

I think Ive run into a story area at one of the memorials before I should have. Guess ill come back later.

spoilers after vault 87

Spoiler for Hiden:
so after the enclave showed up and talking to the brotherhood I had a very good feeling the enclave had something to do with the super mutants and such. nothing else made sense in the context that the brotherhood was saying. especially how they seem to swarm down town DC and appear to be infinitely in number. Also if you wander the wasteland you'll run into small stations where they have caged up deathclaws, ugh bad news. so I finish the vault and get caught and have to go meet the president. as I'm exploring the area I ran into all the tubes full of super mutants and ghouls and what not. I hope the mutant fawke comes into play later.

Man theres SO many quests with SO many ways to complete tem Im definately going to have to replay this one. I just did the Android man one and theres about 9 options to finishing it with multiple rewards. Me I am being a angel so I ended up with a shiny new plasma rifle and some caps and such and 200 karma. That should help make up for all that bad karma I get for stealing smile

Daehawk, question on that quest:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Did you find The Mechanist?  I went into the robot chop shop nearby, but found nothing other than robots.  He had an area in there, but he wasn't home when I got there.  Did you find him?

2 observations

1. the T key lets you pass time without sleeping. I kept wondering why I couldn't do tat. It was beginning to annoy me to have to find a bed to just waste time till day light so I could hit up the stores. I was even fast travelling back and forth places so time would pass.. UGH.

2. I really...REALLY...love how that even if a enemy drops his weapon that when i loot his corpse it is there for me to get without me having to look around for the dropped weapon on the ground. Saves me time and anger..especially when its dark or they drop the gun off a ledge.

There's another way in that doesn't involve that route.

Spoiler for Hiden:
In the top level room above the big open room that you get to via catwalks there is a coffee pot on the table.  If you interact with the coffee pot, it opens a secret door that leads to the same room the elevator leads you to.
