After playing FO3 since release I can say Bethesda did the series proud. Damn fine game. I can now hope that they acquire the rights to Shadowrun

There are a lot of crazy people living out in the Wastes. Anyone else find the Nuka-Cola collector? Its like talking to a speed freak.
Just found the schematics for Deathclaw Gauntlet. Unfortunately one of the ingredients is a Deathclaw Hand. Even with Jericho I keep getting killed. Will try again after I gain a few levels. Those are tough bastards.

Take out his legs at range to slow him down. What weapon skills do you have, for small guns I'd use combat shotgun, energy weapons seem more potent. My laser rifle is a monster against them.

Id love a Stargate game using the FO3 setup. Imagine the guns and stuff and VATS..wow.
I kill Deathclaws with my Chinese Assault rifle. 2 1/2 burst and its dead. I took out a whole town of the wee beasties.
I just now came across an old lady living alone since her husband died and guess what I did.....NO! Im not into granny porn......I recovered a couple items for her and she gave me her husband's old pistol. Its a Blackhawk .44 Magnum that does 55 damage. Hell thats more damage than any other weapon Ive got and I have a unique sniper rifle and unique laser pistol. Its sweet! As a bonus she turned on her radio tower and now I can listen to violin music while scavaging the wastes.

I was thinking that the engine would be great for a Western themed (Firefly if you need the scifi angle) RPG. I'm really enjoying the game a lot. Far more than I thought. I'm on my second go round - but the ending sucks.
Oh, btw, I was one of the people worried about lock picking. Even though I don't care for the concept, I don't think it could have been implemented with any less pain - especially after Kathode's kind hints on the boards.

I have a ton of bobby pins, and usually have no problem picking a lock, but every now and then it seems the game will get finicky and I'll lose a few.

I totally agree. This would be perfect for Deadlands (and I'm thinking that the SPECIAL system would be pretty easy to adapt to the Savage Worlds ruleset, too).

I mentioned nothing about location. The encounter..I thought,...was common knowledge along with the weapon. I posted no picture due to not wanting to post a spoiler.

Yeah, see there's this whole new generation of Fallout gamers that have never played Fallout 1 and 2, and thus wouldn't know about that encounter.
Spoilers are more than just the location or an image.
Not to be a douche though, it's a fine line anyway, but it's still best if you put that behind a spoiler tag so preserve the feeling of wonder a new player would get. I mean, imagine if you had never played a Fallout game before and you were looking forward to seeing all it's weird and quirky encounters. Now that's one less giant surprise for a new player to have upon starting the game.

Dude, I know you post at QT3. That place is spoiler central. I'm stumbling over stuff I don't want to know about over there all of the time. A vocal portion of the QT3 populous seems to either think that you're immature if you care about being spoiled about a game, movie, or book or that it's your own fault for not immediately playing, watching, or reading the thing the absolute minute that it came out. Off hand I can't think of many times, if any, that I've really been spoiled on GT. I'd have to say that GT is one of the best about spoiler courtesy among the forums I frequent.

Hmm... I'm more cautious about entering movie or book topics in general since it's more important for me to keep those unspoiled, so I guess I can't comment on those kinds of threads. The Qt3 "m-f'in non-spoiler thread, maaan" thread for Fallout 3 has been pretty well behaved I think, but it's possible I'm forgetting something. The Gamers with Jobs folks seem even more prissy about spoiler sensitivity than I am, and I think I'm pretty high on the spoiler prissy scale. I hardly ever post at the Penny-Arcade forums but I do lurk there occasionally and it seems like they outright lynch people for posting unmarked spoilers.

Yeah, never ever enter a movie or book thread on QT3 if you don't want to be spoiled.
I think it's a bit different/better when a game is so huge like Fallout 3 that there are separate threads but, as a recent example, it's quite easy to stumble over unmarked details of the final act of Gears of War 2 if you go into the QT3 thread on that game. And their Witcher topic pretty much spoils the crap out of that game's ending too.

Be VERY careful with this. It's not mentioned on that page, but be careful messing with the uGridstoload=# variable. If you raise it, then save your game, then decide to lower it again, you will not be able to load that saved game. I lost about 5 hours of play-time yesterday because of this. edit: Here's the Fallout 3 Tweak Guide from tweakguides.com

I thought that review was fair and many of the points valid. Do I agree with the overall conclusion? Somewhat. The review rightly points out that Fallout 3 was striving more for the "let's put cool stuff in the game" for the sake of having cool stuff to do, regardless of whether it makes particular sense for a post-bellum world (200 years later) to still have working pre-war computers, coke machines, ammunition, useable first aid kits and other devices that should have been looted or degraded decades earlier. Even the cool atmospheric details like a woman authoring a Survival Guide or a Society for Robot freedom seemed anachronistic; the survivors needed a survival guide 199 years earlier and freeing robots seems a luxury for people on the edge of destruction. The review also notes that our wasteland is pretty densely populated mostly so to give us the opportunity to meet interesting and stimulating survivors of an ancient culture... and kill them.
Yet, these are the sort of objections that people make when they say they don't like Lost because it's so unrealistic that so many good looking people would be on the plane in the first place or that the I am Legendmovie sucked because it didn't follow R. Matheson's novella faithfully (actually I was one of those who veered towards that view but then just said "Oh, hell, I still have the novella...") and ultimately, I have to think that really recreating a more subdued, somewhat more plausible, less action-movie-style game would have probably appealed to far fewer gamers. Although I probably would have also enjoyed a less frenetic game, a more "build a shelter, hunt some food, construct a rudimentary lathe" survival game with infrequent survivor contact, I wouldn't expect anyone expecting to make money to create said game.
I'm surprised that NMA's review was relatively rant and sarcasm free; given the strong views I'd been reading there before. I love FO3 myself but I can see the reviewer's POV and share it even though I've had a lot of exciting (albeit cartoonish at times) fun. In any case, FO3's success may encourage someone to "do it right" according to his ideal and whether that's a turn-based independent or another big budget game, we'd get another opportunity to get either a gritty thoughtful ("Do I abandon the village survivors or aid them?") game or a shoot-em-up.

Just made level 20 and since I had been focusing on stealth/unarmed I was looking forward to the Ninja Perk. Now I notice that although it says that "When attacking with either Melee or Unarmed, you gain a +15% critical chance on every strike" it requires a Melee Weapons skill of 80. I don't use Melee Weapons. I use the Deathclaw Gauntlet. If the Perk gives you a bonus to Unarmed why do you need to have a Melee Weapons skill requirement?
