I must admit, I love these games!
The series has a couple things going for it: they are fun, they look good, they are easy to play. In the end it might be the simple fact that I am pretty damn good at them.
I saw a video for this one G4TechTV. The story was so incredibly melodramatic and inane that I would have slapped my cat if I could have cought her. It is strange to see the Japanese take on the US military and nationalism. Beautiful video of aircraft flying in formation over an aircraft carrier at sunset followed by opera music and cruisers being destroyed. Young pilots saluting with a huge flag backdrop. I was ready to enlist by the time it was over. Somehow Namco managed to throw a sappy story about lovers that are torn apart by fate or some rubbish. I think they showed an explosion and then a rose falling in the rain. By that time my brain was mush and I was rummaging through the closet for my pistol and flight suit. You can view the trailer
here or just take my word for it: it rocks!
The gameplay looked pretty good, too!
Does anybody else feel as strongly about these games? I don't even play "real" flight sims. The controls are perfect, the graphics excellent, and they are pure fun.
