I had a Zune as well. I think they got a bad rap. Every time I have to use that god-awful POS called iTunes, I question people's sanity about why iPods were so much better. Unfortunately Microsoft was just behind the curve on music devices (and now phones).

itunes is definitely better than what comes with Windows Phone 8 frown

Because drag and drop through File Explorer is hard? At least it doesn't hose my system regularly like iTunes.

drag and drop is nice, but I prefer having all my songs on a big list instead of having to remember what is in each folder.  also makes picking and choosing easier.

The Explorer side isn't exactly the same - when the files are on the phone you can't change their meta tags, for instance. There is the Phone app which works alright, and Zune wasn't much better. I'd like to see them allow you to create playlists with splitscreen on the phone itself, as well as correct album info etc a lot better than it does.

Also, having to use the music section to add to current playlist and then go to what's playing to modify/save it is less-than-intuitive.

Try removing one song from a saved playlist. Remember the Zune software? At least you could tell it to remove songs that you rated as "broken heart".
