That will be two (three?) years running you had basically one request.

Let's hope they got it right this time.

I'll get those scores up as soon as I get home from EGM and I'll read more into the versus match with NHL 2005.  They basically did the same thing last month with Madden/ESPN NFL 2K5.  It isn't their usual review outlay, it's more of a roundtable discussion of the two games and which one is better.  This time around though it wasn't even close and ESPN won in a landslide.

Last year's ESPN was such a disappointment that was NHL2k3...I don't know.  I guess I was expecting more.  It'll take quite a bit for ESPN to retake the crown from EA's NHL.

Yeah - Playing with NJ I need to be able to get that one goal so I can sit back and trap the rest of the game!!

EA did a great job last year. ESPN took a step backwards.

ESPN - 8.5, 8.5, 8.0
NHL 2005 - 6.0, 6.0, 7.0

Honestly they don't get much into stuff in this roundtable-like discussion.  No word on the goalie thing at all in the review.  Just basically that ESPN plays a better and more realistic game than NHL 2005.

I will keep playing NHL 2002 on PC until I get the all clear.  Sure it's cheesey, but I am good at it!  Got burned on last years ESPN NHL.  Not again!

I can't believe NHL scored that low.

I don't get into hockey, but I'm thinking about picking up ESPN NHL because it's only $20, and two years ago it was a great game...even if it's just a fun game of hockey, I think that would be worth my while.  I'm hoping for 720p or 1080i....we'll see.

Well damn, I'm at about the 22nd minute of a 45 minute developer interview on Gamespot about ESPN NHL and it looks really nice.  Right now he's babbling about the franchise mode, but his comments on gameplay seemed like they hit some of the more frustrating points and fixed them this year.  He mentioned how they tried to get different kind of goals rather than one-timers almost exclusively (the only way I had any luck...that and errant goalie passes).  It's easier to play a more realistic game of hockey with ESPN and after watching this, I'm pretty damn excited for September 1st to roll around.

Edited to add: and only $20!!

Edited again to add: just watched the whole movie.  Party mode sounds like a gimmick (much like the All-Star Challange or whatever that was last year), but the game looks nice overall.

Well, I will only be getting one of these this year.  Last year, ESPN sat around collecting dust cause I liked EA's better.

I am expecting some great comparisons from you guys this year to help me make the correct decision on which one to get.

Ponch!

ESPN NHL: $20
NHL 2005: $50

The choice is obvious!

Buuuuuuurn!

Then again, I spent about, ooh, 500% more time playing EA than ESPN last year...so that could be true.  But 20 dollars is a very nice price smile

Yeah, the money does alot to pull me towards ESPN, but EA's games are just better, imo. Id rather spend the extra 10 than spend the extra 30 when I realize that I like EA more
