Yo.  With the tourney going extremely well so far, I thought I'd get an interest meter on running a season in the game.  I need input from you all, though, from those who are interested.

Basic things:

Season length: how many games?
Trades: on or off?
Injuries: on or off?
Period length: is 5 minutes good, or would you like longer?
Difficulty level: it's on pro for the tourney.  I've found that All-Star is REALLY difficult to score in.  Is pro good?

Everything else I'll probably leave at default, since the game plays solidly enough online with those settings, just so long as everyone keeps their line changes on automatic, at least!

I'd like to get 8 teams at least (as per the tourney), but if we manage more, even better.  Hopefully we can make it 2 sports seasons finished on CG.  smile

One last thing: I was planning on starting this after the New Year, so we don't have to worry about having games played when everyone's traveling and enjoying the holidays.

TML, for short.

I'd definitely be in - I don't have broadband until January 10th or so...so if you guys would be willing to wait for the Pens to get into the season, I'm definitely excited about getting this sucker going.

Season length: Man, I don't know.  Really anything, I guess.  Kind of depends on how many teams there are...it would be cool to play each person twice or perhaps even three times?
Trades: On!  Definitely!
Injuries: On!  More fun...but if Lemieux goes down...ooh dear.
Period length: 5 minutes is fine.  Actually, if it's just one game...maybe 7?
Difficulty level: All-star is somewhat difficult to score on...pro would be just dandy.

I call the Pens!

I'm not sure how the season game groupings would work.  I don't know if it's like football, where you play one game each week, and then move on, or if you play a couple of games against your opponent each iteration, then move on.  I'll have to check and see when I get home from work what options there are.

Oh yeah, can't forget, I call the Flames!

I'd be IN but would need to a hiatus or to wait until after the new year.

Baby scheduled for 12/28 (C-Section) and I'll be unavailable from then 'til about the 2nd.

On the bright side: I won't be getting any sleep so I can play my games at all hours of the night!!!

One suggestion I would make would be that we set up the schedule like baseball and play 3 game series. It would be tough enough to hook up as it is but if we could knock off 3 games at a time, like the tourney, it would be a lot easier.

The season is already waiting til after the new year.  Read my post, Devil!  smile  Good luck with the baby thing.  That can't be fun.

Good suggestion on the 3 games at a time thing.  Would give us a longer season without a long calendar eat-up by the games.  I'll look into it tonight.

IN!

My Xbox Live 2-month free subscription runs out on Jan 7th.  However, that hockey tournament definitely convinced me to keep it!  I'm definitely in and I would suggest keeping it on pro.  Everything else seems fine.  Of course, I get first dibs on the Isles!

Devil - CONGRATS on the upcoming baby!!! biggrin Is this your first?  My son and daughter are the BEST things that ever happened to me.  Enjoy!  Just one thing though.  I'm a C-Section baby and so is my brother.  We are both Islander fans.  Therefore, it is safe to conclude that  C-Section babies tend to be Islander fans.  I guess you can't win them all?  Congratulations!

Thanks Star! It is our first and I was a section too, but quickly became a Devs fan. An Islander fan would be fine, as long as the baby isn't a Bruin or Ranger fan.  biggrin

You know... I'd actually play this if you guys could make it West Coast (PST) friendly.

If you think that's possible, I call the Kings.

That's not a problem at all.  We've already got 2 people out on the West Coast, TML and Rob81Lakes.  And most everyone else is flexible with times with enough warning.

Devil - Great news on the upcoming little Devil!  You guys are going to have one hell of a family.

So about this season thing.  I'd like to sugguest some sliders, which I can post later.  The default is not bad, but the goalies need a little tweaking and puck retention/control needs to be lowered.

Fatigue is a bit out of wack and will need to be adjusted if anyone is going to use auto or semi-auto line changes.

And Speed Burst after Fight Win?  Turn it OFF!!

I'll post some sliders this evening and we can discuss.

I'd be willing to play.  From past league experience I would recommend a 7 day game cycle though.  Any fewer days between games is asking for trouble.

Lockdown, stolazi, you two interested in this?  We've got 7 so far.  Also, the game has set season lengths, so it looks like we'll be going either 10 or 18 games for the season.  Whatever you guys want, I will implement.  slywink

Here are some suggestions for slider settings.  Rather than post them all, I'll include some of the more important ones.

These are geared toward a more simulation style of play, without being hard core.  I like a little slower game speed and more realistic hitting.  Goalies are less of a brick wall, so playing good defense becomes more important.

Skill: Pro
Game Speed: 4
Fighting: 1
Speed burst after fight win: Off
Puck Friction: 7
Ice Friction: 1
Goalie Freeze Puck Time: 2

Advanced
Game Clock: Accelerated
Last Minute Real Time: On  ;highly recommended
Custom Penalty Length: On
Pen Length: 2:00/1:00 ;good for short games

Penalties; these are lowered due to the AI's tendencies to over commit.
Slashing: 4
Spearing: 5

Gameplay
Goalie: 7
Offense: 8
Defense: 10
Speed Burst Effect: 7
Speed Burst Time: 3
Speed Burst Recovery: 2
Fatigue Effect: 8
Fatigue Recovery: 1
Fatigue Time: Maxed
Hitting Power: 2
Shot Accuracy: 7

; Retention and control low create more loose puck situations and players cannot magically strip the puck as easy
Puck Retention: 2
Puck Control: 2

; These make the goalie a little less super-human.  Garbage goals and writs shots are a little more effective.
Goalie Anticipation: 6
Goalie Cover Depth: 11
Goalie Saves: Maxed

OK.

Stardrifter, I realize you are sort of new to posting here, so let me give you a little bit of free and extremely helpful advice.

DO NOT encourage him!

Do not tell him you laughed at his posts, or tell him you think he's funny, or post smilies with his posts quoted, or anything, even remotely, resembling a compliment.

What this will invariably do is cause him to think he is actually amusing to someone other than himself, at which time he will proceed to continue to post even more things that he finds amusing, and consequently subject the rest of us to the idiocy that spews forth on already a too-common basis.

Kindly refrain from any sort of positive encouragement from this point forward when it comes to Devil.

This has been a public service announcement.

All the best,

LD

What's the story on the season?  Is it a go?  If not, I may be cancelling my Live account (2-month free tryout).  I need to know before the end of the day tomorrow (1/6).

Thanks.

Oh, it's still on.  We were just waiting a bit because TML can't play again until he gets back to school.  I'll give Rob's sliders a try in the next day or two, and then set things up.

Any news on the season?

I would love to get the season in before baseball starts up.  I'm one of those that can't play a hockey videogame during baseball season and vice versa.

Let me know. smile

If anyone is still interested I am starting up a small league with some friends that live in my area.  All are welcome.  I set up a new thread to make it easier.  Post there if interested.
