Ah, the next gen is right around the corner and I couldn't be more excited. And then I realized something....I have 4 HDMI ports on my receiver, And they are all being used:

-Alienware X51
-PS3
-Xbox 360
-Nintendo WiiU

And with the next series of consoles apparently lacking backward compatibility, and with my girlfriends fixation on getting Apple TV, I theoretically need 7 HDMI ports (!)  I still have a number of games I love and/or haven't finished on the current consoles, so I'm not about to mothball them. I'm not sure if an HDMI switcher can be used in conjunction with a receiver, but I'll be investigating that soon.

So, is anyone else out of HDMI ports? Or are most of you more dedicated to one or two gaming systems? I was really hoping this upcoming gen was going to offer backward compatibility. It sounds like MS may have "something" akin to that with a stripped down, cheaper 360 that plugs into their next box, but rumors have been wrong before.

Hmmm...or maybe I can convince her that we need another 55" plasma.... drool

hmm,I have 4 as well(SONY Bravia),,for some reason it has ports 1,3 and 4 on the back and number 2 on the side of the TV..only using 2 though at the moment because i am using Component cables instead for the 360(can't remember the reason why now,i think because of the Turtle Beach Headphones)...The component cables came with my old ass 360

so at the moment just
HDMi 1-SKY Box
HDMi 3-PS3

When the PS4 comes out i will likely move my PS3,i hardly play any games on it now,let alone buy some for it when the PS4 is out

saying that though...,i do plan on playing FF14 on it,so depends how i do on that on whether it keeps it's space,I don't have that much room though

got all 4 of the HDMI ports on my TV full:

360
DVR
Wii U
blu ray player

I've got an Ouya pre-ordered, which will need another one.  I figure the 360 port will be upgraded to the neXtBox and I may eventually upgrade to a blu ray player that also has the ability to play PS4 games.

Just using one for the PS3. Our TV records shows right onto a portable 1TB HD by way of USB.  I got lots of room to grow!

This is part of why I just replaced my 10+ year old HDMI-less receiver with one that has 8 HDMI inputs.

I ran out and so I went and got an HDMI switch off of Amazon.  I had three HDMI ports on my receive and have my DVR, 360, and PS3 in them.  So, pulled out one, plugged the switch in, and now I have my WiiU, 360, and a spare cord to plug my laptop into if I need to plugged into that.  I'm now out again, but could always get two more switches if I need to.

Already out... got five HDMI devices, three ports.  One of these days I'll get a new receiver.

For those interested, this is what I bought:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049S6ZUS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has worked great and it also is autoswitching, so as soon as it detects a new signal, it switches over to it.  I only ever have one device turned on at a time, but since I have my 360 and WiiU plugged into it, if I already had the WiiU on and I wanted to see something on the 360, I could just turn on the 360 and it would switch over.

Anyway, just wanted to share in case others want some solutions.

Thanks for the link. I'll grab one immediately. I also need to buy a new entertainment center because I've officially run out of room. Maybe something similar to what HankRaptor posted. icon_eek
