I'm not sure who is all playing it, though the boards at the most popular non-official Total War fansite are still pretty active for it.  In a discussion over at QT3, it turns out a lot of us who bought it at or near launch are having a hard time getting enthused about giving it another try for whatever reason.

On the other hand, whether anyone else is still playing it is largely irrelevant for what is still mostly a single player game.  The games' flaws largely go away if all you are going to do is play multiplayer battles, which is the only multiplayer currently in the game.  The promised post-release "multiplayer campaign" feature has still not arrived.

As for the game, the numerous patches seem to have fixed a lot of problems.  If the promised patch early this week improves on the AI as promised, the game will probably have reached a state that justifies it at the price you can get it for on Steam this weekend.

In fairness to Tals, a lot of people don't read the Steals and Deals section when they are looking for game recommendations.  A lot of people don't even go in that part of GT at all.

I'll second what Sarkus said... I bought the game at release, but havent been able to muster enough enthusiasm to start it up again since, due to a number of issues. And yes, it really is a singleplayer game by heart...

Agreed I never visit that area - I did ponder going there but i'm looking for impressions. I think i'm firmly in the MP side of gaming so it's unlikely to draw me with hardly anyone playing it frown

Having chatted to Raz prior to this games release I know how enthusiastic he was about the game and it's potential

really? A total war game and you'r only in it for the MP? Interesting how differently we all play games. I want to take my time and plan out my moves, otherwise I wont play games like this at all :-)

oh, and damn you for posting while I'm typing ;-) Yes, I was very interested in the game, and its possiblites, having LOVED the TW: Rome and TW: MWII and Shogun even....but this? unfrotunately, no...

It's more I prefer MP games so if it was total war i'd be looking at the MP element. I've been reading Brad Wardell's posts on Elemental and Demigod and he fits very firmly in the SP category looking for that ultimate AI that can be a challenge - however in elemental he is having an initial MP test so he can draw inspiration on human strategy. You can never have the absolute inspiration or stupidity that a human player can bring to a game - I think that sums up my view on why I dislike AI in games smile

I liked it a lot and played 1.5 grand campaigns. It's slightly different from the other TWs with all the ranged combat in this iteration. I'd say go for it.

Which is why I didn't add a snarky comment with the link.   icon_wink

The promised post-release "multiplayer campaign" feature has still not arrived.

Does anyone still believe the devs when they promise this? They've promised us multiplayer campaign in patches ever since Shogun, but they've never delivered.

yeah, they do promise a lot of stuff, but never deliver...the sad thing is, due to the great game TW: Rome is, I'll keep on buying their games, over and over and over :-D
