I would like to get a baseball game for my Xbox, but I am not much of a sports gamer so I'm not sure which one to go for between EA MVP 2005 and ESPN 2K5. Which of these baseball games is the better game and/or easier to play for a sports game newbie? My main concerns would be user-friendly hitting and fielding controls, good graphics/eye candy, and general fun factor.

Do both games include strategy options like bullpen management, mound visits, and arguing with umpires to fire up your team?  Just to make sure, do they both include the Washington Nationals? smile

MVP is on sale through this Sat. for $20 at CC, so the price is a push.

MVP is better this year.

The only thing I don't like is the throwing meter in the field. ESPN was a dissapointment this year.

ASB was awful.

3 hour animations made it impossible to throw a guy out from in the hole at second, forget turning DPs.

3 hours LMAO. I have the game tho, its pretty good. I didnt notice the animation parts yet because i was just trying it out. But i did notice its a little bit crazy when trying to hit the ball, so ign was right on that part. I think once i do play it, i will put the speed on fast and that might help.

What do you mean by the throwing meter?

And shoot, as further evidence that I am not much of a sports gamer, I forgot that there is a separate Sports forum.  Doh!  Maybe a mod could please move this there?  My bad.

/edit - Now I see why I didn't find a good baseball thread when I did a search only in this (Console Gaming) forum.

There is a meter, much like the one used in football games for kickers, where you hold the button down to select the strength of your fielders throw.

While I like this for pitching, a routine grounder to short shouldn't be all that complicated.

MVP is probably a better overall game, but I find myself playing 2k5 more. The graphics and commentary in 2k5 are so much better it's hard to go back to MVP. The animation and overall gameplay are better in MVP.

Thanks for the replies.  It looks like I will go with MVP -- too bad you can't hack the commentary and graphics from ESPN into MVP to get the best of both.

If you have a good PC and get the PC version of MVP, I'm pretty sure you can get the ESPN graphics on it.  I know you can get the Fox graphics for sure smile.

You can get graphics for any of the networks as well as the music from those networks.

http://www.mvpmods.com is your best source for both PC and XBox MVP mods.
